Preface
It gives me immense pleasure to submit the Self Study Report (SSR) of our
college to the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore for
accreditation in conformity of our requirements for further quality nourishment and
enhancement of the college.
I sincerely thank the NAAC for being a guiding light and providing us a great
opportunity to assess ourselves about our strengths and weaknesses in several areas of
administration as well as academics while answering the criteria itself. The task of
preparation of SSR turned into an awesome experience as it gave a deep insight of
even unnoticed minute slip-ups.
The members of the steering committee have spent their countless hours and
exhibited staggering resourcefulness in handling the maze of data, compiling and
editing it. I honestly appreciate the efforts put in by the committee to bring out the
SSR that exhaustively encompasses the entire functional aspects of the Institution.
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell has been instrumental in raising the bar
of excellence, adopting and implementing assorted quality enhancing measures.
I take this privilege to request the NAAC to arrange peer team visit to our
college to assess and place valuable suggestions, which enable us to scale greater
heights in our performance. I truthfully strive to incorporate all the suggestions of the
peer team to meet the expectations of all the stakeholders and to procure imperative
status in the field of higher education.
We are all spruced up for the NAAC visit and eagerly looking forward to it.

SUMMARY OF APPRAISAL OF THE COLLEGE
1. CURRICULAR ASPECTS:
The college does not enjoy curricular autonomy to design its own
syllabi to suit the present day needs. The Institution strictly adheres to the
curricula designed and prescribed by the VSK University Bellary to which it is
affiliated. However, the parent university periodically restructures the syllabi
with adequate cognizance on the needs of higher learning programmes and
employment market. The programmes offered by the Institution are run on
semester mode. In the semester system, it is felt perhaps; in all the colleges
following semester system that time is the major constraint. With meticulous
planning and tight schedule, the syllabus can be completed but no surplus time
is available to go even slightly beyond the curriculum. However, to overcome
the inadequacy of time, the learners are encouraged to make use of the library
and internet facility made available. To supplement their knowledge on
curriculum and beyond, guest lectures are organized. Visits to Industries,
historical places, study excursions and projects further nourish their practical
knowledge.
2. TEACHING – LEARNING AND EVALUATLION:
The primary commitment of our Institution is to go successful in
teaching methods and its consequent result. In view of that, teaching- learning
is given major focus and of course, it is evident in the university results. The
Institution is always on its toes to adopt newer techniques of teaching. At
present, LCD projector, and internet facilities are employed to make teaching
- learning attractive and interesting. To make teaching- learning more vibrant,
efforts are made to further modernize by developing smart classrooms, audio-
visual room for conduct of seminars, workshops etc,. Currently, due to lack of
adequate facilities, conventional chalk and talk method of teaching has turned
inevitable.
Every year, prior to the commencement of curricular discussion, orientation
classes are held for new comers to provide curricular connectivity and to brief
avenues open after the successful completion of their basic graduation in
NAAC Self Study Report Cycle-1 of GFGC Sandur
16
higher learning programmes and job market.
Educators with their individual timetable, portion of the syllabi allotted
and lesson plan, commence their curricular classroom obligations. The classes
are conducted strictly according to the timetable and discussion of the portions
will go as per the prepared lesson plan. If, for some reason, the portions are not
covered as per the plan, necessary measures are taken to conduct extra classes.
Slow learners are identified and additional academic support is extended by
conducting remedial classes, providing study material, previous years‟
question papers, library books. As a follow up action, assignments and tests
are made mandatory for all students and internal marks are awarded based on
their performance in the tests. Experimental learning at every level is achieved
through industrial visits, historical places visits, skill development activities,
projects and guest lectures by eminent personalities in various areas.
3. Research, Extension and Collaboration
The college has the status of 2(f) of UGC Act and also applied for
Permanent Affiliation to the University, which is under process. With the Inclusion,
Research Activities of our faculty will be boosted. Our college faculties are published
their articles in ISBN/ISSN publications.
At present out of 06 permanent staff 02 faculty is PhD awarded. And among
Guest faculties 05 members are PhD Awarded and 01 member is pursuing PhD
Programme.
The Extension Program namely NSS two Units of the college provides
innumerable opportunities to students in various types of extracurricular activities and
to reach society and contribute to promote the national integration.

The Principal is the managing authority of the college monitored by the
Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka. He manages both the
academic and administrative matters. The IQAC has an important role to play to
enrich the college development.
The college advisory council meets regularly to distribute funds collected by
CDF, CDC and the Department on preferential basis. Feedback system regularly
informs about the loopholes in the system which are set right with thorough
discussion. The institution is democratic in its functioning with decentralized
distribution of duties and responsibilities including all stakeholders. Great efforts are
done by the Principal to communicate with higher authorities related to the
infrastructural and other needs of the college and properly utilize the funds for overall
development.
7. Innovations and Best Practices
The college is conscious of its responsibility to the student community,
society, nation and the environment. In order to fulfill social responsibility of the
institution and to foster that spirit in students, a variety of community development

2.2.1 How does the institution cater to the needs of differently- abled
students and ensure adherence to government policies in this regard?
Our institution caters to differently-abled students by providing necessary
infrastructure where students can easily access the facilities provided in the
college. The institution has made a ramp in front of the administrative office
and toilets to facilitate the differently disabled. In addition, assist them time
to time for their needs. At present, we have only one student. However,
institution strictly follows government policies in this regard.
2.2.2 Does the institution assess the students‟ needs in terms of knowledge and
skills before the commencement of the programme? If „yes‟, give details
on the process.
Yes, with the guidance of the Principal and IQAC, Orientation Program is
conducted for each class before the commencement of the course. And faculty
adopts different approaches to lift their morale and boost their confidence.
Each department conducts interaction session and motivating lectures to bring
out their hidden talents.
2.2.3 What are the strategies adopted by the institution to bridge the
knowledge gap of the enrolled students (Bridge/Remedial/ Add-
on/Enrichment Courses, etc.) to enable them to cope with the
programme of their choice?
Institution will conduct Orientation Programme to enable the students to
bridge the gap between Pre-University and higher education. For Students
special classes in communicative English are organized to enable the
students to cope with the programme. Teachers give extra time to the
students to help them cope with the programme to which they are enrolled. If
students find it difficult to continue with a particular programme, they are
allowed to change from one stream to another (where possible) or from on
subject to another. Teachers guide the students in making the right choices by
judging their knowledge, skill and aptitude. Through class room interaction
and discussion with students, the teacher identifies slow learners (students
having knowledge gap) initially. Tutorial/Remedial classes are organized for
slow learners. Enrichment course like personality development prorgrammes
(Vikasana, Sahayog, & Naipunyanidhi) are also conducted to improve
student‟s personality and motivate them for an innovative and creative
mindset.
2.2.4 How does the college sensitize its staff and students on issues such as
gender, inclusion, environment etc.?
NAAC Self Study Report Cycle-1 of GFGC Sandur

and other cells of the college sensitize staff and students on various socio-
cultural and environment issues. Women Empowerment cell and Anti Sexual
harassment cell is quite active in the institution and special programs related
to gender, moral values are conducted to bring awareness among the staff
and students.
2.2.5 How does the institution identify and respond to special
educational/learning needs of advanced learners?
The advanced learners are identified by their performance in the examinations
and also by periodic evaluation. The advanced learners are permitted by the
Principal to access library and internet at their convenience during the college
hours. The teachers are always at the disposal of such students and spend time
to guide them and provide the best academic support. The deserving students
are issued minimum of five books of their choice from the library and are
permitted to retain them until the completion of the course.
2.2.5 How does the institute collect, analyze and use the data and information
on the academic performance (through the programme duration) of the
students at risk of dropout (students from the disadvantaged sections of
society, physically challenged, slow learners, economically weaker sections
etc. who may discontinue their studies if some sort of support is not
provided)?
At the time of admission, based on the documents produced by the students,
the college office segregates students based on their economic background,
academic performance and physical disabilities, so that measures are taken to
ensure adequate facility for such students in the college.
To uphold their economic conditions, the students are informed about the
scholarships provided by the government and other private welfare
associations. Further, the students are helped to avail different scholarships for
which they are eligible. The students from far off places are assisted for
admission in nearby government hostels and the day scholars who are
commuting daily are helped to get their bus passes in the college so as to avoid
inconvenience and long wait in the bus stand.
The students with poor academic performance are encouraged to make use of
the library facilities specially extended to them. The teachers often in the
classes encourage the students to continue their studies by highlighting the
avenues kept open after the successful completion their studies and provide
moral support in every walk during their academic journey in the college.

  • 15. NAAC Self Study Report Cycle-1 of GFGC Sandur 15 SUMMARY OF APPRAISAL OF THE COLLEGE 1. CURRICULAR ASPECTS: The college does not enjoy curricular autonomy to design its own syllabi to suit the present day needs. The Institution strictly adheres to the curricula designed and prescribed by the VSK University Bellary to which it is affiliated. However, the parent university periodically restructures the syllabi with adequate cognizance on the needs of higher learning programmes and employment market. The programmes offered by the Institution are run on semester mode. In the semester system, it is felt perhaps; in all the colleges following semester system that time is the major constraint. With meticulous planning and tight schedule, the syllabus can be completed but no surplus time is available to go even slightly beyond the curriculum. However, to overcome the inadequacy of time, the learners are encouraged to make use of the library and internet facility made available. To supplement their knowledge on curriculum and beyond, guest lectures are organized. Visits to Industries, historical places, study excursions and projects further nourish their practical knowledge. 2. TEACHING – LEARNING AND EVALUATLION: The primary commitment of our Institution is to go successful in teaching methods and its consequent result. In view of that, teaching- learning is given major focus and of course, it is evident in the university results. The Institution is always on its toes to adopt newer techniques of teaching. At present, LCD projector, and internet facilities are employed to make teaching - learning attractive and interesting. To make teaching- learning more vibrant, efforts are made to further modernize by developing smart classrooms, audio- visual room for conduct of seminars, workshops etc,. Currently, due to lack of adequate facilities, conventional chalk and talk method of teaching has turned inevitable. Every year, prior to the commencement of curricular discussion, orientation classes are held for new comers to provide curricular connectivity and to brief avenues open after the successful completion of their basic graduation in
  • 16. NAAC Self Study Report Cycle-1 of GFGC Sandur 16 higher learning programmes and job market. Educators with their individual timetable, portion of the syllabi allotted and lesson plan, commence their curricular classroom obligations. The classes are conducted strictly according to the timetable and discussion of the portions will go as per the prepared lesson plan. If, for some reason, the portions are not covered as per the plan, necessary measures are taken to conduct extra classes. Slow learners are identified and additional academic support is extended by conducting remedial classes, providing study material, previous years‟ question papers, library books. As a follow up action, assignments and tests are made mandatory for all students and internal marks are awarded based on their performance in the tests.
