EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
May 2014 - Sept 2014: Operation Ismay (Nato Conference South Wales)
In my role as a Police Security Coordinator I was responsible for producing and implementing a security
plan for Cardiff Airport. My plan was required to protect both the airport and over 25 heads of state
from various countries as well as the public from a terrorist attack and criminal activity and to facilitate
peaceful protest. The threat to the event was dynamic and two days prior to the event the threat level
was raised to severe. I worked with a wide audience which included the Foreign Commonwealth office,
the Welsh government, armed forces and Cardiff Airport. The event was a huge success despite efforts
to disrupt it from criminal activity by various sources.
3. 1997 - 2014: Royal and VIP visits
As both a POLSA (Police Search Advisor) and a SECCO (Security Advisor) I have undertaken many
searches and given tactical advice to many Silver and Gold commanders. Throughout my 17 years
within this role I have undertaken over 100 operations, ranging from all the Royal Household to the Prime
Minister and Foreign Heads of State.
Oct 2012 to 2014
My role was lead for the marine section for Northumbria Police. I was a qualified Dive Contractor,
responsible for all Operational waterborne Police Operations and I worked with the media over the
summer to campaign to prevent waterborne deaths.
2012: Lib Dem Party Spring Conference
I was the Security Coordinator for this conference. I produced a security plan which was approved by
the Chief Officers and implemented for the event. The event was a huge success and my plan prevented
a number of attempts to disrupt the event by the way of protests.
2012: Olympic Games
I was part of the working team that delivered both the Olympic Games and the Olympic Torch, as well
as the security plans for all the Olympic Hotels, training grounds, routes and transport hubs within the
Northumbria Police Force Area. This was a very dynamic and challenging period in which I thrived. I
delivered a very dynamic and fluid plan to both events which had its challenges. However, these were
overcome to deliver a fantastic games with no identifiable issues to the public.
2010: Raoul Moat
This was the most challenging and dynamic search operation that any force has had to contend with. I
played a major role in the search that lasted just over a week. I was lead search advisor to both Silver
and Gold.
We utilised assets from all 43 forces including the Police Service of Northern Ireland and external
services as military, search and rescue, Media, TV celebrity Ray Mears. My role was to tactically develop
a search plan to identify and capture this male but also to make sure that no more officers or civilian staff
were hurt whilst doing so. This was concluded with the objective I was set and no more persons were
hurt and Moat unfortunately took his own life.
As a result I have delivered presentations around the country including PSNI (Police Service of Northern
Ireland) about the operation and the tactics I implemented.
Cold Case Reviews
As both a search and security advisor I regularly reviewed searches for Chief Officers, from outstanding
missing persons to cases that have been concluded and need to be debriefed.
Events / Visits
I have a large portfolio of searches in relation to Royal Visits, VIP visits and large events such as GNR,
JGNR, Air Show and concerts at the Stadiums. This includes looking at terrorist attacks, person borne
