Hvad taler vi om
                                                      WAP

                   WAP - wireless application protocol


                   Alt hvad der i dag er fastnet er mobilt i morgen. Fremtiden er mobil, siger Birger Jürs.
                   En generation vil vel holde 12-15 måneder, siger Birger Jürs
                   mantraet 'Information anywhere, anytime'.


                   Trekløveret Ericsson, Nokia og Motorola er gået sammen om den fælles standard WAP (Wireless
                   Application Protocol). WAP tager højde for mobiltelefonernes begrænsninger og indeholder
                   specifikationer for, hvordan web-sider skal udformes, så de nemt lader sig præsenterer på en
                   mobiltelefon. Der bliver altså tale om en forenklet adgang til Internettet via mobiltelefonen.

                   Sammensmeltningen af Internettet og mobiltelefonien åbner op for en masse muligheder.
                   Telefonen vil kunne bruges som et kreditkort, så man klarer betalingen i Irma eller i toget med sin
                   mobiltelefon. Teknologien gør skulle også gøre det hurtigere at nå frem til sit fly i lufthavnen, når
                   selve indtjekningen kan foretages med sin mobiltelefon.

                   2001
                   I løbet af år 2001 vil mobiltelefoner kunne overføre data med samme hastighed som man kender
                   det fra ISDN.
                   2001
                   Samtidig får farten i GSM-nettet til næste år et gevaldigt spark, og vil kunne tillade hastigheder
                   på op til 150 kbits i sekundet, hvilket er mere end selv en dobbelt ISDN-linje kan komme op på.
                   Det sker når operatørerne tager en såkaldte GPRS-teknologi i brug. Forkortelsen står for General
                   Packet Radio Service, og vil således fungere som en kickstarter for de WAP-baserede tjenester.
                   2002
                   Det nye net hedder UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) og udmærker sig
                   bl.a. ved at kunne kommunikerer med hastigheder op til 2 Mbit/sek. Hvilket er omkring 200
                   gange hurtigere end hvad en mobiltelefon i dag kan klare, som kun kan lade data lunte af sted
                   med en hastighed på 9.600 kbit, men UMTS-nettet er også omkring 50 gange hurtigere end
                   dagens computermodemer. Levende billeder, tv, film og direkte videokonferencer kan derved
                   med lethed sendes og hentes via mobiltelefonen.
                   Dertil kommer at UMTS-nettet bliver globalt, således at man også vil kunne få forbindelse
                   mellem USA, Europa og Japan.

Hvad er mulighederne !

                  Location depending services, som betyder, at telefonen indretter sig efter, hvor du befinder dig.

                  F.eks. vil man kunne ringe efter en taxa, når man stiger ud af toget i en fremmed by - uden på
                  forhånd at kende nummeret på det lokale taxaselskab. Det vil også være muligt at ringe og
                  bestille en pizza hvor man end måtte befinde sig, siger Birger Jürs.

                  Reklamer, som så småt er ved at vinde indpas takket være SponsorFonen fra Sonofon, vil også
                  blive mere avancerede. F.eks. vil en reklamespot fra den tankstation, man netop kører forbi i sin
                  bil, kunne dukke op på ens mobiltelefon i form af en tekstbesked, der gør opmærksom på et
                  særtilbud på en bilvask eller billig benzin, Førende bilfabrikanter og mobiltelefon producenter er
                  gået sammen.


                  Service
                  Og et væld af serviceudbydere står klar med tjenester, der kan give det mobile Internet noget
                  indhold. Bl.a. søgeportalen Jubii og DSB, som vil gøre deres rejseplan tilgængelig fra en WAP-
                  mobil-telefon. Og det danske firma bag det succesrige kalendersystem Time/System er også klar
                  med en WAP-udgave af den elektroniske kalender.

                  Også banker arbejder på at udvide homebanking til også at omfatte WAP og netop som
                  betalingsmiddel anses for at være det, som skal sørge for, at den nye teknologi slår i gennem.
                  Dermed kan mobiltelefonen bruges til at betale med. I første omgang over Storebælts- og
                  Øresundsbroen, men senere også i tog og supermarkeder. Findes i Finland.
