System Manager, Community Benefits
Developed, implemented and evaluated Community Benefit management plans in a newly designed system-wide
position. Accomplishments include building, integrating and leading Community Benefit programs and services
for a 15-hospital system. Developed and updated the community benefit data-tracking strategy for system level
accountability. Improved community benefit reporting with an emphasis on the poor and vulnerable. Led a
system-wide strategy to conduct community health needs assessment for each hospital service area, using best
practices to write community health needs assessment reports, implement community-engaged plans and evaluate
the Community Benefit programs. This work focused on reducing regional health disparities and contributed to
healthier communities, resulting in:
• A partnership with Healthy Communities Institute to customize web-based systems that provide health
data dashboards, tools and best practices to meet Affordable Care Act and 2012 IRS 990 requirements;
• Significant community relations and partnerships with area healthcare providers and community
organizations to collaborate on community health needs assessments for the region;
• Leadership education and guidance in Community Benefits throughout the BJC Healthcare system with
focus on Affordable Care Act and IRS form 990 requirements;
• Development of key logistics and strategies with departments across the system’s hospitals (including
finance, legal, tax, communication and marketing departments); and
• Successful BJC HealthCare System Community Benefits compliance with IRS Schedule H reporting
from $289 million in 2007 to 690 million in 2014; an increase of over 116 percent.

Led strategic integration of clinical services and social services for three Federally Qualified Health Center sites.
Directed a successful strategy to integrate immunization services at each center with the St. Louis Health
Department. Implemented policy to incorporate children’s lead screening data from pregnancy to seven years of
age for specific zip codes at each Health Center. Provided direction and guidance for all community health
outreach programs and community health initiatives. Developed a tracking tool to measure the effectiveness of
community outreach programs, such as cardiovascular, mammography, prostate and skin cancer screenings.
Accomplishments included:
• Design and implementation of workflow system that reduced patient time in the waiting room and medical
error by 30 percent in a one-year period;
• Implementation of a tracking system to follow-up with all abnormal screening results and liaison with
area medical groups and hospitals for follow-up care with FQHC patients;
• Developed strategies that increased patient satisfactory by 40 percent within one year; and

• Applied for and received grant funding from federal, state and private sources to improve the quality of
women’s health care and cancer screening for all genders within this at-risk and vulnerable population.
