Applied Engineering Principles-
Problem Solving and Project Management Techniques
Steps of problem solving-
Identify the problem, Gather information, Break problem into parts, Identify solutions, Select best
solution, Take Action, Examine and evaluate results.
Steps to effectively manage a project-
Goals, Tasks, Risk, Requirements, Schedule, Do it, Finish and Evaluate
These taught practices translate to real-life plans and improvements.
Applied Engineering Principles-
Use of Basic Fluid Mechanics in Airveying
Types of Airveying-
Dilute Systems, and Dense-Phase System
Common Airveying problems-
“Rat-holing”, miss-use of couplings, pipe wear, stoppages in the line.
Knowledge of these concepts lead to short-term and long term solutions
Applied Engineering Principles-
Efficiency use of technology,
and Communication skills
Efficient software manipulation-
Knowledge of standard symbols, and nature of AutoCAD software packages.
Presentation skills-
Proper slide layout, proper use of graphics, ability to create organized topic flow, concise speaking points,
and effective public speaking techniques.
General knowledge of software reduces learning time on new systems,
and Presentation skills translate to the ability to easily train others.
Applied Engineering Principles-
Engineering “Intuition”, and use of AutoCAD drafting
Building Intuition-
In courses such as engineering statics students are taught overtime how to intuitively understand what
needs to be done based on a problems look and feel.
AutoCAD drafting-
Knowledge of hot-keys, tools, plotter setups, and P&I diagram conventions.
Good problem intuition quickens identification of changes in system flow and equipment.
Knowledge of AutoCAD enables quick accurate edits and renderings.
Change Management is how Capital projects
are tracked and completed.
An idea is submitted
Risk analysis
Plans and sketches
Work orders created and Contractors hired
Records are compiled
Project is closed and complete
Experiences as an employee of JM Huber Corporation.
Timecard submission.
8 hour days or longer.
My First 401K.
Safety training.
Company events.
Interacting with Contractors.
Reporting to a superior.
Attending/scheduling meetings.
Training other employees.
Time management.
Interacting with operators.
Industrial plant navigation.
