ANNUAL REPORT 2012

ANNUAL REPORT 2012
You don’t choose your family.
They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.
Success Stories...
“An adorable ham” is how our waiting child
profile described this bright, joyful little boy.
Joshua was an older child with quite a serious
heart condition.Through Journey of Hope in
China, he finally joined a family and gained nine
siblings! When they first met, Joshua and his dad
laughed and giggled putting Legos together.
“He got those Legos out and went for it,” his
mom recalls.“Playing, exploring, smiling,
putting things together and taking them apart
again.”Joshua is a medically fragile child because of
his heart defect and other health concerns that
have required surgery.
China’s Journey of
Hope and Special Focus:
In FY2011, children began to join families
through these new initiatives that focus on
older children and children with special needs.
To date, 39 children have been or soon will
be adopted. Many children were matched and
joined their families in less than a year.
To our shareholders, clients and associates:
As we transition from one fiscal year to another, and consider the common themes that span across old and
new, we find ourselves very excited given our position within the angency. Multiple strategic changes have
brought us to where we are now using advertisment to help us collect more donations. Starting with our
Win-at Cards strategy, which was initiated about five years ago, our Company is bringing a renewed focus
on product leadership which includes a culture of innovation and change. Propelled by continuous consumer
research, our product leadership stragety is enabling us to develop relevant situation in which people can relate
to today that.We have thrived as a company for over 100 years because we have evolved to meet the needs
of families every where and this focus remains key to our growth.
Over a decade ago we made a decision to stay ahead of the curve and keep in touch with all the local adop-
tion agencys around the world.Through time, we have strategically improved our methods of informing the
world of the many childrens all over the world that do need homes and of their traggic stories. For the fiscal
year 2012, we achieved a six percent revenue increase while delivering cash flow in line with our revised plans
and guidance for the year. While also finding over 1,000 children new homes with loving families.
Adoption Support Fund
Bronwyn and Dave had the parenting experience and financial means to raise another child, but the upfront
cost of adoption was a barrier.A grant from our Adoption Support Fund made it possible to adopt their son,
6-year-old Andres, born in Ecuador. Children’s Home makes grants to help families adopt older children, sibling
groups and children with identified special needs children who might otherwise wait indefinitely to be adopted.
Awards may be as small as $70 to cover a filing fee on crucial paperwork or as much as $3,000 to assist with
medical care or international travel.
Dear Friends,
FiscalYear 2011 has been a year of transformation for Children’s Home Society & Family
Services. As a 122-year old agency, we understand well the ever-shifting landscape of adoption
and family support. To adapt, we have made many changes. We announced that our Child
& Family Support programs would be joining a new parent agency, made sweeping changes
to our domestic adoption and pregnancy counseling programs, and enhanced our focus on
adoption and early childhood care and education.
As of January 1, 2012, our Child & Family Support services will become programs of People
Incorporated, a well-establishedTwin Cities nonprofit. Our vast array of mental health,
domestic violence prevention, anger management counseling, and parent support services will
continue seamlessly thanks to this transfer. We created a new self-directed domestic adoption
program which allows families to network using modern technology and social media, and
in doing so, we discontinued our pregnancy counseling service. And we are very pleased to
continue to offer high quality early learning programming in sevenTwin Cities locations as we
have for nearly 40 years.
Sincerly,
KarmenTorres
Who We Are?
Who is eligible to receive assistance from the Fund?
The Uniting Hearts Fund was established in 2012 with the goal of supporting activities designed to promote more adoptive homes
for orphaned children. Some of these activities will include helping qualified families in need with some of the costs associated with
adopting a child. The Fund was started by professional golfer Brad Bryant and his wife Sue with a portion of his winnings from the 2012
ChampionsTour.
In order to be considered for adoption assistance, a family must first be approved by the Children’s Homes as an adoptive family. In
addition, the family must adopt their child through the Children’s Homes. Some of the requirements for adopting through the Children’s
Homes include being at least 23 years of age, following a Christian lifestyle, having lived in your community for at least six months,
providing supportive character references, passing a criminal
background check, and completing a course on adoptive parenting provided by the Children’s Homes as well as a requisite home study
and evaluation.

Dear Friends, FiscalYear 2011 has been a year of transformation for Children’s Home Society & Family Services. As a 122-year old agency, we understand well the ever-shifting landscape of adoption and family support. To adapt, we have made many changes. We announced that our Child & Family Support programs would be joining a new parent agency, made sweeping changes to our domestic adoption and pregnancy counseling programs, and enhanced our focus on adoption and early childhood care and education. As of January 1, 2012, our Child & Family Support services will become programs of People Incorporated, a well-establishedTwin Cities nonprofit. Our vast array of mental health, domestic violence prevention, anger management counseling, and parent support services will continue seamlessly thanks to this transfer. We created a new self-directed domestic adoption program which allows families to network using modern technology and social media, and in doing so, we discontinued our pregnancy counseling service. And we are very pleased to continue to offer high quality early learning programming in sevenTwin Cities locations as we have for nearly 40 years. Sincerly, KarmenTorres Who We Are? Who is eligible to receive assistance from the Fund? The Uniting Hearts Fund was established in 2012 with the goal of supporting activities designed to promote more adoptive homes for orphaned children. Some of these activities will include helping qualified families in need with some of the costs associated with adopting a child. The Fund was started by professional golfer Brad Bryant and his wife Sue with a portion of his winnings from the 2012 ChampionsTour. In order to be considered for adoption assistance, a family must first be approved by the Children’s Homes as an adoptive family. In addition, the family must adopt their child through the Children’s Homes. Some of the requirements for adopting through the Children’s Homes include being at least 23 years of age, following a Christian lifestyle, having lived in your community for at least six months, providing supportive character references, passing a criminal background check, and completing a course on adoptive parenting provided by the Children’s Homes as well as a requisite home study and evaluation.
