Kids like us can grow up to be us ( back to school ) austin community resource at emanuel healing temple
1. KIDS LIKE US
CAN GROW UP
TO BE US
BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT
Emmanuel Healing Temple
Saturday August 11th. 2012
11.00 am to 3.00pm
2. The Lawndale Community on the Westside of
Chicago suffers from high unemployment
rates, high foreclosure rates and high crime
rates. The median family income is $12,955.
This is far below the national poverty level for
an average family of 4 people.
3. Many families in the community cannot afford
to the meet basic needs of their families.
Studies show that when parents are both
socially and economically depressed, children
suffer from low self esteem.
Children fall prey to, gangs, drugs, crime,
teenage pregnancy, illiteracy, and
worthlessness.
4. The community has to be the driving force to
save our children. That is why we have
partnered with churches and community
groups, to sponsor back to school events.
These events raise the level of self esteem in
our children.
We show what you can achieve with
education, hard work and commitment.
5. Most of our children don’t identify with
historical role models.
We introduce them to people that grew up in
their community. These everyday people can
be our children's role models. Children can
see tangible people from their community
that have achieved success. They can see that
they have a future, and can grow up to
inspire others.
6. We will get sponsors for food, entertainment,
school supplies and book bags. Prizes will be
awarded to the children with the best grades by
grade level: elementary, high school and college
bound. Everything is donated, from stores,
business and our corporate sponsors. We call on
all sponsors by category.
Grade school: child with the best grades we
ask for a bike. One boy and one girl.
High school: child with the best grades we ask
for a home PC.
College bound: we ask for a lap top. Also all
students get school supplies
7. A little motivation goes a long way.
Our programs will bring our motivational
partners. Our Guest speakers will include;

to the Board Room.

8. THE MESSAGE
The message to our children is a simple one. If
you stay in school, apply yourself and have goals
and dreams, your education will take you places
you would never imagine.
To Quote Dr. Dorothy Height
“Greatness is not measured by what a man
or woman accomplishes, but by the
opposition he or she has overcome to
reach his goals”.
