2. What am I adapting?
• My adaptation is based on the Friends TV series and I
plan to adapt it into a film. I plan for the film to last
at least 90-100 minutes long. The film is going to
focus on the life’s of the group after they have
started their new life’s and are now living outside the
city. The film will have similar characteristics of the
original TV series so it will attract the original fan
base that the series had.
3. Genre
• The genre of this film is going to follow the TV series so it will
mostly be comedy with a little bit of drama because I want to
portray how they have grown up since they have split up and
started living there own life’s. However I still plan to keep the
comedy aspect so that the audience will be able to enjoy and
get a feel of the original TV series.
• The film will be certificated at 15. This will because it will
contain a lot of adult themes and sexual references. There will
be some mild language but noting too extreme. As I'm going
for a comedy/drama genre there won’t be any action.
4. Narrative
• Narrative- Monica and Chandler will be taking a vacation with their
adopted child when Monica surprises chandler by telling him that she's
invited the rest of the group. After everyone arrives we see joeys girlfriend
arrives which sparks an argument. We see the friends make up in a local
coffee shop and then plan to go on a helicopter trip. As the trip begins we
see a fault appear and the helicopter crash happens. This is when we see
the friends come together as they are stuck in the middle of the woods.
Here I will portray the friendship from the TV series as we see the group
work together to get back to the cabin.
5. Constraints and opportunities
• A typical constraint that will affect the adaptation and make it difficult to
produce and become a successful idea will be the budget. Because I'm
trying to adapt the idea from a sit com I'm going to need a better budget
because the equipment that is going to be used will be a lot more
advanced. Ethical issues might come into play as well as some of the jokes
that are made might offend some of the audience.
• Opportunities that could be in place for this adaptation will be that if the
budget isn't that great then it might lead the film to having more of a sit
com feel to it which will appeal to the original audience. The ethical issues
could also mean that the audience won’t react bad to the jokes and t
could improve the film.
6. Target audience
• The main target audience will be the original fan base of the
TV series so it will be roughly 15-25 year olds. This will be age
range because I think they will be able to relate a lot to the
film as well because it shows the change from early 20’s to
settling down towards their 30’s.
• The cast of the adaptation will be the cast that appeared
within the original series. This will mean that my audience will
also be familiar with the cast.
7. Cinematic ideas
• In the film the only CGI that will take place will be the
helicopter crash scene. But I'm trying not to use a lot
of CGI or special effects because I want to try and
keep the original sit com feel to it.
