The document discusses the potential audience for a media product. It would likely be rated 15 due to violent content like drinking, smoking, and a scene dragging a body into a river. The audience would mainly be men interested in action, crime, and spy genres. Both men and women may enjoy the stylized neo-noir setting and modern soundtrack contrasting with the time period depicted. Anyone 15 and older could appreciate it due to the rating. The intended audience is regular cinema-goers who make seeing films an event, and it could be shown in either mainstream cinemas or art house cinemas.
1. Who would be the
audience for your media
product?
Ruby Millard
2. Rating
I think that our film would be rated a fifteen because of the violent nature of the
story line. One of the characters in the scene is drinking whiskey which may not
be appropriate for a younger audience. The main character is also smoking and
because of the fashion and nature of the film it almost glamorises these two
properties. The basic story line is to do with gangs and assassins which is also a
negative and quite aggressive story line which may not be appropriate for
younger audiences. With gangs becomes crime such as drug taking and selling,
prostitution and theft. The shooting in the OTS is not very aggressive but the
thing that comes after it on our story board, dragging a body into a river, is
slightly twisted and may be distressing for a younger audience. There is no
dialogue in our OTS because it is dominated by a strong piece of music. With the
lower class cast there would be a lot of swearing in the film with maybe
degrading comments to certain groups of people because of the time in which it
is set.
3. Gender
I think that our film would a attract mainly who is being represented in the story, men. The same
audience would be attracted to action and adventure films. People who like crime and spy movies.
Stereotypically this is mainly men. The young male actors in the OTS could almost be someone for
teenagers to look up to, for young men it could be a relatable age to be and for older men it could
be looking back at the past. For all they may tend to put themselves in the shoes of the main
character or the people around the main character. It gives an audience a sense of escapism and
sometimes when your life is the usual rat race seeing a film which is quite adventurous make you
forget about that.
Women may be attracted to the film because of the same reasons that men are. Its just the
stereotypical film which is made for film based on the story line. I think the aspect of our film which
will be attractive to both genders is the stylised aspect of it. The setting is basic but quite
fashionable. The clothing is simple, smart and of an era which people like to be consumed in whilst
watching films. The soundtrack is modern which contrasts against everything. This gives people a
neo noir experience.
4. Age
Our film will attract anyone from fifteen upwards because of the rating. I think that if we did not
have the modern and testosterone filled sound track it may have struggled to attract a younger
audience. I think it may have seemed quite depressing because of the grey setting. Its defiantly a
sound which would make you look up from your mobile phone or newspaper if you heard it on the
tv because of its boldness. In my feedback from the OTS we asked a range of age what they thought
of the opening title sequence, all of them gave similar positive feedback and said that they would
be interested in watching the film even if it was not usually there sort of thing. Achieving a new
audience is something that I think we were definitely aiming for. We tried to attract all ages with
stylising which has been really positive. Reaching a larger audience is what we wanted, we wanted
a lot of people to enjoy the same thing in the same way which would create discussion around our
film.
5. Location
I think our film is made for regular cinema goers who enjoy going to the cinema to watch films.
They may like to dress up in the same time period as the film which is on to make an event of the
whole thing. Organisations allow fans of films to dress up and watch films in a location which suit
the film. I hope that this would be the same reaction to our film. Alternatively to this I can picture it
being shown in an art house cinema to keep it small and isolated.
