2. The Krishna River is one of the
longest rivers in central-southern

(870 mi). It is also referred to as
Krishnaveni in its original
nomenclature. The Krishna River is
the fourth longest river in India
after the Ganges, the Godavari and
the Narmada.
9. Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is a masonry dam built across Krishna river
in Nagarjuna Sagar, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is one of Asia's
largest masonry dams, at a height of 124m, and creates a
reservoir holding up to 11,472 million cubic metres. The dam is
also known for being one of the earliest irrigation and hydro-
electric projects in India and boasts of one of the largest
networks of canal systems in the world. The dam provides
irrigation water to the Nalgonda District, Prakasam District,
Khammam District, and Guntur District. A lake emerges from just
behind the dam, which is one of the largest artificial lakes in the
nation.
The project benefited farmers in the districts of Guntur,
Prakasam, Krishna, Nalgonda and Khammam. The right canal is
203km long and irrigates 1.113 million acres (4,500 km) of land.
The left canal is 295 km long and irrigates 1.03 million acres
(4,200 km) of land.
