2. How does the media product use/develop/challenge forms and conventions of a real media product? Major colours for this magazine are black, white and red The masthead is made to look as if it has been eroded by some kind of acid. Indirect mode of address. The image of the band/artist used mysteriously due to the fact that the artist isn’t looking straight at the reader. Main headline, giving away the feature of this issue. The black, red and white, show that this is a rock magazine I have used the typical banner seen at the bottom of magazines which states the bands featured in the magazine and to add effect I have placed images in-between the spaces.
3. Primary optical area The use of the titles of different features are quite stated as you can see them as they stand out from the rest of the text. The image looking at the features, draws the audiences’ eyes to the features also. I have used columns in my article as they are the normal conform for a magazine, in either contents pages or double page spreads. Pull quote I included a review section as most magazines seem to have them and it conforms to them. Taglines tell you who the different artists pictured in the magazine are.
4. Made to look like a ransom note, to fit in with the idea of the title. Placed in the primary optical focus area Main Pull Quote Main image on this side of the double page. Same width A small fact file has been added to get rid of any negative space Information about upcoming issues. Tag lines explain about these two pictures.
5. How does the media product represent particular social groups? The text for the headline is written in the same font as you would find on the electric guitar brand ‘Fender’ I have used a picture of an uninterested teenager, he identifies with the lazy teenagers of the day, with an ‘I don’t care’ attitude, this will hit a note with the teen audience. The text itself interests a reader as they will want to know what has happened to the artist and buy a copy to find out. Side stories show other content that my readers may be interested in. The bands included in the footer are also seen as part of the social group that I am targeting.
6. The inclusion of a feature to do with all the upcoming band tours this year is also befitting of my target audience. With those who would like to go out and hear bands both famous and breakthrough live. Images of band members associate with the teen demographic of my magazine, using the looks and styles they wear, the audience will identify with the people in the pictures. The idea of adding a subscription to the magazine was a good one I feel, especially as my readers will like the idea of a free gift for joining and ‘special opportunities unavailable anywhere else’.
7. The main image shows a person like my target demographic , yet again uncaring about the world around him and the use of the guitar held nonchalantly is proof of his don’t care attitude. The use of 2 pictures in order to show different relationships will move my target audience that the artist is only human and that there is no definite way to find the one you want straight away.

10. Gender The magazine can be read by either gender there are no preferences Favourite music There are definite likes, which are Pop and Rock, but metal has been included as it is usually quite popular with rockers. The favoured instruments The instruments can cause different people to enjoy different bands and magazines, I went for the highest instruments on this pie chart
11. How did you attract/address your audience ? The artists is looking to the side, this gives the impression that if you open the magazine, you open the personality of the artist. Encouraging the audience to buy the magazine and get to know the musician. The main headline attracts the human eye because the white stands out from the black background. The colours conscribe to the stereotype of the target audience, being the usual colours you would associate with a rock magazine.
12. The musician stands out of the page, meaning the audience is immediately drawn to him. The colours still conscribe to the general appearance of a Rock magazine. Also he is wearing an outfit that my target audience will be wearing they will identify with him.
13. Made to look like a ransom note, to fit in with the idea of the title on the front cover referring to the fact that the artist hasn’t been doing much lately. This image appeals to the audience in its serious nature, which appeals to their curiosity about the artist. The actual article is very structured, with some pull quotes in order to get the reader to notice key aspects of the artists feeling Information about other bands the readers of this article might like, just as a small note, it is used to try and enlarge the readers musical repertoire and tastes. Tags show how the pictures at the bottom of the page are relevant
14. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I have learnt a great many things during this process, for instance the principle of thirds where by my pictures I produced for the magazine have been improved with more focus on certain people or objects in the image. Photography I have learnt about the Gutenberg diagram which has helped me with the layout of the magazine, making sure the main titles are always in the primary optical area and that there is nothing of major importance in the terminal and weak fallow areas.
15. Photoshop I have learnt more about Photoshop, with the tools, effects and many different things that Photoshop offers. Most of which helped me to improve my overall product. The main tools I used in creating effects, such as cutting around a certain part of a photo I would use both the lasso tool and eraser tool. I have used cropping and a website called DaFont in order to make the typography of the magazine seem more original and different from the normal kinds of type you can find on a windows programme. This is the original picture from the front cover with no tools used.
16. Blogging I have also learnt about blogging at blogger.com which has helped me showcase my work. Here by I can post all the different parts of my project, including: Masthead designs, Questionnaire answer tables and My final products, to be shown on the world wide web.
17. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? The original work I did on my ancillary project pails in comparison to the work that was used on the Eroded magazine, a lot more techniques and tools were used for an overall better effect, you can see the improvement merely from the two cover pages. Using the new formats of working, like Photoshop, blogger and publisher have all given me a greater understanding of the work that has to be done merely on the cover, let alone the contents and the articles inside of a magazine, I feel that the more that certain Programmes are used the better the person using them becomes, I would never have thought that I could have made such a product before doing all this work on the different programmes and the use of a more experienced skill base, based on looking at other magazines already out on the market.
