In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? FRONT COVER I used other magazines to get design ideas for my magazine. On my front cover where I decided to have a large picture on the front like most other music magazines. I also took some ideas in for other things like placing of strap lines. My masthead is bold and large as this will grab peoples attention. Quite a few other magazines used this as well like Q and NME. Also most magazines had a few puffs around the front cover so I added one into mine. I made the back ground a plain black so there is no distractions from the main articles. The text layout is simple and evenly spread out to make it easy to read. Like Q magazine and every other magazine has a main picture taking up most of the front cover with text down the side a few other magazines have this as well.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? CONTENTS PAGE For the contents page of my magazines I looked at other magazines and noticed the contents, in the contents page was in different sections (like for example album reviews) so I did the same to give my a professional look. I put images in my contents page next to the stories that they were about. I was planning on doing so and noticed that professional magazines do to. Quite a few magazines numbered there contents I thought this made the page look better so I did it to mine using my colour scheme. I added a red rectangle to make the page look more bright as it looks really dull without it.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD For the double page spread of my magazine I looked at a few stories in magazines, I saw that they put the writing (in the article)into columns so I decided to put the text in to columns to make it look like an real article and make it look professional. I have one main picture on the page that is about the article I made it large . I then added made up quotes that were said by the band that I am talking about and added them to the page. the text is about the story of the members of the bands and questions from the public. And the last piece of writing is about the review of there album. I put these in as other magazines have these in (the questions from public and the album reviews also this will get the audience interested as they would want to find out more about the new band.
How does your media product represent particular social groups? My article was aimed at a younger audience. The main story was aimed at them. Them duo is a blues and rap duo. The artists are quite young so I think this would draw in the younger audience. The pictures I used I made them look pretty cool like the one below. I held the microphone in a certain way which the latest rappers use and the use of the hand also latest pop and rap stars do it. The band are meant to be idols to the young.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? I need to use media institutions so I can publish and sell my magazine. The media institution that might want to distribute my magazine would be ipc who produce most of the uks magazines including music ones. they produce the magazine uncut which is also about music and is one of the main music magazines in the country. They have similar targets to mine. They might want to publish my magazine is that there isn't a magazine aimed at teenagers/young adults so they might want to publish them as they are the ones that are more likely to buy it. Also I could consider using the internet too as it is getting more popular, and is cheaper to do. More people are now using the internet is that its more available easier to do. I could post advertisement on the internet and make them pop up when visiting certain web sites. The age group that my magazine is aimed at use the internet more, so this is another good reason why is should do this.
Who would be my audience for my media product The audience for my media product is the teenager to young adults. The reason for this is that they are the ones that would buy magazines more frequently. Other people would want to buy it too as the age of 16 – 35 are ages that people listen to music (demographic). Also I think there is a niche in the market for a music magazine aimed at the younger adult/teen. So to get this audience I used young artists in my magazinesand the type of language I used wasn’t completely formal, there is a bit of slang as people this age tend to use it.
How did you attract/address your audience? I think that I attracted my audience through my front cover. Mostly I think this could be down to my masthead and strapline, as it is quite big and bold in a bright red, which stands out better with the black background, also the masthead name the beat as it is music related term. The picture would also attract them as its pretty big, it would draw attention and as they are young. The colour scheme of my magazine is quite dark. Too colourful may maybe make people think it’s a children's magazine. There is also a free gift (puff) which should bring in the audience. The language of the magazine is quite formal but not completely, but I don’t think that this would matter this also might help bring in other audiences.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? To start with we had to plan the magazine to do this we looked at other magazines and how they presented the front covers double page spread and contents page we then review a few magazines. The technology's I used in the making of my product was word publisher, paint and fireworks. But to start with I used word to plan my magazine. First I chose what audience for my magazine. Then I chose I masthead. To do this I went on da font and typed in the name of my magazine and looked at the things that came up I then chose the one that would be suitable for my target audience. The I had to choose a colour scheme. i cam up with a three different colour schemes. after this I made up some drafts for my front cover with the three different colour schemes I then chose the best looking out of the three.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Then I used publisher to make my magazine. I kept the daft I used and changed it up a but while adding things to my magazines like my masthead strapline pictures and text I added. I few things to fill in the space like puffs barcodes page numbers this also made it look professional. I learnt how to use fireworks and how useful it can be to edit my pictures how you can get rid of the back ground so It would fit in with my magazine. I used paint to cut images in to the shape needed like for my strapline. Then for my double page spread I had one big picture taking up most of the space on one side I then filled the rest with text and quotes from my article For the contents page I split it up in to four different sections one for the main picture of the stories, one for special feature, one for regular features and one for album reviews. I then number them as I saw that in another magazine and it made it look more professional.
