Pendulum is a drum and bass band formed in Perth, Australia in 2002 by Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen. They gained popularity with their debut album "Hold Your Colour" released in 2005. Their sound evolved to incorporate more rock elements on their 2008 album "In Silico". After touring and releasing one more album, the band announced in 2012 they would no longer perform live shows, though Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen continued making electronic music as Knife Party. In 2015, Pendulum reunited for a performance at Ultra Music Festival, signaling their return as a live act.

3. Past
Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen were in multiple rock and metal music
bands before they started producing music on their computers.
Pendulum became a duo DJ in 2002, then Paul Harding joined, making their
first song ‘ Vault’. Released in 2003. They also released ‘Spiral / Ulterior
Motive’ the same year.
They made their first compilation appearance on ‘Jungle Sound’ in 2004.
They released their debut album in 2005 called ‘Hold Your Colour’. This
album charted in both the UK and Australia.
In 2006 they gained new members again, these being Ben Mount, Peredur
ap Gwynedd and Paul Kodish.
4. 2007-09
Their second album, In Silico, was released on 12 May 2008. This release
contained different sounds compared to their debut album as it contained
more rock elements whilst maintaining their electronic elements.
The response to this was reasonably positive.
After the release of the album, Paul Kodish, for unknown reasons, left the
band.
At the end of the year the band filmed a live DVD on 4 and 5 December
2008, at the Brixton Academy. This was released on 12 June 2009.
5. 2009-11
The band toured again in 2009. During the tour they announced
they were releasing a new album called ‘Immersion’.
"Salt in the Wounds", a track from their new album, was Zane
Lowe's Hottest Record in the World on BBC Radio 1 on 25 January
2010.
Pendulum released "Ransom" as a single via their website with all
proceeds going to the Help for Japan fund after the tsunami.
6. 2011-2015
On 29 March 2011, Swire revealed that there would be no new album for a while, but
later that year he said there would be new material later hat year.
Pendulum opened or Linkin Park on several different dates during the bands “A
Thousand Suns” tour.
In 2011 Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen announced a side project called Knife Party.
This project not linked to Pendulum and consisted of electro house, dubstep and other
club genres. Knife Party is now their primary project.
P. played at the Download Festival, Oxegen, The Eden Sessions and Glastonbury,
among many others.
On 5th of April 2011 they announced that a track Ransom will be released on their
website and all the proceeds will go towards the earthquake and tsunami in Tōhoku
In 2012 thy announced Pendulum would no longer be doing live shows and there are
no plans for their 2013 album.
7. 2015 - present
On 20 July 2015, the 10-year anniversary of the release of Hold Your Colour.
On 26 July 2015, Rob also uploaded two videos to his personal Twitter page of old
Pendulum studio files playing on his computer.
On 22 August 2015, Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen joined El Hornet and Ben Verse
onstage at V Festival
On 16 December 2015, it was announced that Pendulum would reunite as a live band at the
2016 Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Florida. The band closed the music festival as the latter
half of a joined performance with Knife Party.
