1. Julian Davies
Professional Profile
As an extremely experienced, highly-motivated and results orientated analyst within the UK
Employee Benefits Industry, I have a proven track record of delivering complex small and
large scale projects within tight deadlines. I have a holistic understanding of pension
systems transition and functionality projects, having been involved in managing systems
functionality teams, writing Business Requirement Specifications, setting up Testing
Strategies and Test Matrices for TPA implementations, migrating data to and from various
pension system platforms and programming calculations and workflow processes.
From the experience I have gleaned working for both TPA companies and software houses,
I have in-depth working knowledge of all types of pension schemes: Defined Benefit, CARE,
Defined Contribution and Hybrid. I understand the complicated permutations associated with
the implementation of pension scheme functionality and processes for all of active and
deferred to early/normal/late/partial retirement calculations, re-tranching of benefits to deal
with equalisation issues, taxation and simplification, contracting-out, historic benefits and
transfers-in and out and pension increases.
As an example, whilst working for my previous employer I was involved in a successful two
year implementation project for a client covering the migration and general implementation of
over 100 individual schemes from various platforms including Profund Classic, oPen,
Northgate and Pensions Office to ITM’s Penscope system. This included the creation and
maintenance of an all-encompassing data definitions document covering all possible data
and calculation permutations for all of the schemes involved.
Throughout my career I have variously worked independently, within teams and managing
teams, and I am flexible enough to work in any environment. In addition, in all of my roles I
have dealt directly with clients both on the telephone on a daily basis, and in meetings (high-
level strategy meetings and “roll your sleeves up and hammer out the details” meetings) and
feedback has always been positive. My verbal and written skills are exemplary, and, in line
with the nature of the work I have undertaken in my career, I have always been a detail-
focussed worker.
My IT skills are as advanced as would be expected from a person who has worked in
pension systems for over seventeen years. I have advanced SQL and MS Excel knowledge
and for my migration role at ITM worked with dynamic links between data mapping
workbooks and migration scripts.
In summary, the scope of my pensions and pension systems knowledge is extremely varied,
and my value to the industry has always been to contribute to the maximising of operational
efficiency through improvement of systems, and with a strong business focus, improve the
profits of my employer.
