Employment
September 2013- present
Reception class teacher and Mathematics and Science Co-ordinator
St Wilfrid’s RCVA Primary School, Blyth, Northumberland
My current role is in a Reception class with 30 children. The school has a larger than
average number of children on Free School Meals and also SEN. I have achieved a
successful transition from the Early Years into Key Stage 1 and have introduced
setting between Phonics classes to make sure that every child is taught at the
appropriate level.
I have whole school responsibility for Mathematics and Science. The role involves
raising the profile of Maths which I have achieved through a new scheme called CLIC
for 20 minutes every day, parents coming into classes to observe teaching, a fun and
interactive Math’s Week and also Numeracy Passports going home so that parents are
aware of learning objectives for the year.
September 2011- July 2013
Lead Reception Class Teacher and Literacy and Humanities Co-ordinator
St Joseph’s RC Infant School, Hendon, London
I am currently working in a two-form entry Infant school as Lead Reception teacher.
My role involves teaching the full EYFS Curriculum via learning through play
approach in an indoor and outdoor setting. I have a lot of experience working with
EAL children as over 70% of pupils in my class currently do not speak English as
their first language.
I have whole school responsibility for Literacy (with TLR) and Humanities which
includes book scrutinies, learning walks, leading staff meetings and analysing data in
order to improve grades across the school.
I successfully implemented classroom management strategies and developed excellent
behaviour management techniques. Appropriate work was delivered for SEN children
and used differentiation to ensure all children achieved their full potential.
I have developed excellent ICT skills including using an Interactive Whiteboard.
I have started a book club in school for both staff and pupils which is proving to be a
success. We meet once a month and discuss our chosen story. It allows the children to
involve their parents and develop close links between home and school.
3. September 2010- July 2011
Supply Teacher working across EYFS, Key Stage 1, 2 and 3
First Class Supply, Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear
I worked in a variety of schools across four key stages teaching the National
Curriculum. My job often involved one or two days in a school but also longer
periods. I developed excellent organisation skills and behaviour management
strategies as well as forming close relationships with many of the schools and pupils
that I worked with. It was important that work set by their teacher was completed to a
high standard and marked correctly following the school’s assessment policy.
September 2006- July 2009
Voluntary assistant within three schools
St Bernadette’s RC Primary, North Shields, Tyne and Wear
Star of the Sea RC Primary, Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear
St Cuthbert’s RC Primary, North Shields, Tyne and Wear
Whilst at University, I volunteered in three schools in order to gain experience of
working with children of different ages and abilities. This role involved working with
small groups of children listening to them read or helping them with their work.
