2. Association
The E.L.S. is an association in which decisions are made according to an agreed
and clear structure. Not only do the students learn new things every day, as a
school we continue to embrace good educational innovations.
The E.L.S. offers a stimulating and rewarding learning environment, and there
is a strong involvement by teachers and parents with the children.
Parental contribution
A (voluntary) parental contribution of € 889 is paid to
cover various additional benefits that we as a school and
parents see as important: more teachers, ensuring smaller
classes; a quiet lunch for the children; professional super-
vision at the outside playtime after lunch; and very ample
attention to children who are a further ahead, or who
need some extra support.
Combination classes
Education is predominantly class-based,
combined with a well thought-out system of
working independently. In the coming years,
we plan to grow to 13 classes. These will
include four infant groups, groups 3a and 3b,
4, 5, 7, 8a and 8b, and two combined groups
of 5/6, and 6/7.
We have dual-year combination classes to
ensure that there are up to 27 children in
the classrooms. We also see advantages in
combining ages, so that children can learn
from each other.
3. Eerste Leidse Schoolvereniging (E.L.S.) has existed for over 90 years.
We are a small school with classes of up to 27 students, and take pride
in the positive atmosphere among our children and teachers.
At the core of the E.L.S. curriculum is a thorough grounding in maths,
reading, writing, as well as history, geography, and science. But we
also attach great importance to cultural, sport and musical enrich-
ment, and have an extensive after-school activity programme.
Customised education
At the E.L.S. we work with smaller classes, so that there is
maximum attention for every child. And because we like
to get the best out of all the children, we offer remedial
teaching to pupils who need extra support as well as more
challenges to children who are ahead of their group.
All pupils therefore receive an individualised education.
Continuous school day
The E.L.S. operates a continuous school day. This means that children do not
have to be picked up and dropped off for the lunch break, offering a calmer
experience for both children and parents. The children eat their lunch at a ta-
ble in the classroom with their teacher. Then they play for half an hour outside
under the guidance of teaching staff from Wonderland Kinderopvang (BSO),
while teachers take their lunch break.
