Editor's Notes
Following an assignment, reading, field trip, unit, etc…teachers want to check for understanding, so students are required to write a paper on what they learned. While it is beneficial for students to write a paper, and possibly back it up with research, there are tools available where students can show their understanding other than a typed paper. I am going to show you four tools and provide some curriculum ideas.
My name is Julee Donnell. I have two kids who are 17 and 19, and I have assisted them with their papers many times through the years. I have been teaching Special Education for 20 years. I work with the Intellectually Disabled (ID) population, and they are unable to generate thoughts into a written format. They love having school work, they love projects, and they love working on the computer. I have used these tools with them. I am currently taking classes at ODU for Library Science, and I am planning on switching careers to be a school librarian. I am looking forward to having the ability to use these tools with a variety of teachers in a variety of subjects.
