1. Evaluation
Question 1
In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. This picture like many
of the others is set in
an office as this was a
big part of the story
being told in the video.
You can see two
images overlapping
which shows two
different reactions and
emotions to the same
situation. The story is about a man who is
struggling to escape his work load and is
just waiting for summer time to come
around. He then comes to realise that
none of his dreams came true.
This fits in with
some of Andrew
Goodwin's key
media
conventions as
the is a direct
link between
visuals and the
music being
played.
3. This is the final
scene of the
music video. It
features a green
screen which
allows us to put
the credits
behind the actor.
In the
background you
can also see the
desk which
further portrays
his work he cant
leave behind.
This shot also
goes with some
of Andrew
Goodwin’s key
media
conventions as
it is a close up
of the artist
and it features
a notion of
looking.
4. This scene
features a
green screen
and shows the
actor looking
behind him as
the desk
(which
indicates
work)
following him
everywhere he
goes.
As we used a green screen, it allowed us to
put a brick wall background in so it seems as
if he has walked into different environments
trying to escape his troubles.
This relates
to one of
Andrew
Goodwin's
key media
conventions
as it refers
to other
texts. (See
slide 9)
5. This scene (like
the one on slide
1) is set in an
office as it
refers to his
work life.
However, this
one focuses
more on the
story of him
having to work
rather then
performing.
This
particular
shot complies
with another
of Andrew
Goodwin’s
key media
conventions
as there is a
direct link
between the
lyrics and
visuals.
6. This relates to
one of Andrew
Goodwin's key
media
conventions as it
refers to other
texts. (See slide
9)
Similar to the
scene on slide 4,
this shows him
once again
dragging the
table through
another location
to indicate the
journey and the
struggle that has
been
undertaken.
7. This is shot is
slightly different to
some of the others.
It is still set in an
office to help with
the story but the
actor is now
performing the song
which reminds
audiences that it is a
music video. This scene features lip
syncing which is a
requirement in music videos.
This is also one
of Andrew
Goodwin’s key
media
conventions as
it displays genre
characteristics
of the
folk/acoustic
genre.
8. This shot shows
the freedom the
actor wants but
cant achieve. It is
a dream, an
ambition that he
cant quite reach.
This once
again fulfills
one of
Andrew
Goodwin’s
key media
concepts as
there is a link
between the
visuals and
the music.
9. The idea for our
music video was
based on ‘Grenade’
by Bruno Mars. In this
video he drags round
a piano which
inspired us to make
our actor drag around
a desk. Although the
meaning of the two
songs are different, it
was a good way to
represent the
message in our song.
This fits in
with one of
Andrew
Goodwin's key
media
conventions
because it
contains
intertextual
references to
another music
video.
10. The advert we
designed for the
album features an
image of the back of
the artist.This is to
insure about of
mystery so that people
will buy the album to
find out who he is. It
features very pale,
neutral colours which
suggests a calming
ease towards the song,
of which the song is.
It shows retailers
that will be selling
the album as well as
reviews from
trusted newspapers
to give the whole
advert a
professional look. It
also shows all the
details about the
artist and the
upcoming album.
11. The digipak
followed
the same
colour
scheme as
the advert
to make it
clear they
are for the
same
product.
It features
the artist
again and
his guitar
to show
what
genre of
music the
album
contains.
It also shows the name of the artist, album and track list as well
as detailed spines and a barcode for professionalism.
