“There is no doubt that client virtualization technology
can play a key role in the unified device

consumed by managing PCs, users, applications,

So now, let’s double click on Just in Time Delivery. What really does this do? Let’s think about it this way. Now, we can take your entire user population, across every discipline, use case and line of business, and support them with one single global desktop image. Not 50, not 25 not 10, just one for every single user. This image can be used to spin up a completely non-persistent, stateless desktop, rapidly, using Instant Clone Technology, on demand. If your environment is built on VMware’s software defined datacenter, as the VM is created, we can also automatically attach network policy to that desktop to ensure it only interacts with those assets that are allowed. Using NSX we can essentially put a perimeter firewall around every desktop in real time, without IT intervention. And if that desktop is ever compromised by malware via email or web, the threat is contained to just that desktop. Next we can attach an app volumes app stack mapped to each specific user, containing only that apps required and entitled based on role as well as a user writeable volume for self-installed apps if allowed by policy. And finally we can customize the workspace in real time, mapping network shares and printers based on context, controlling any client side features that might need to be locked down based on location, and retaining any customizations the user made to their environment the last time they were logged in. If you look at this from end to end, what you have is every user in your organization, served from the same single global desktop image, with their network policy, apps and persona snapped in on the fly, in real time. Each one of your users experiences a desktop that seems tailor-made for them, but is completely stateless. And, when they log out that desktop is destroyed and the capacity re-allocated to the next user, served up including the latest OS and application security patches or updates.

Manage Windows settings at logon/logoff
Wallpaper, keyboard, mouse, screensaver, MUI, etc...
These are the only settings that must be loaded at logon – application settings can be loaded at application start – this makes the logon process very fast.
Manage application personalization at app. start/exit
Settings dynamically available across multiple sessions/devices. Fast logon times!
Native and virtual applications supported including ThinApp, AppV, Symantec SWV
Roam settings across all Windows devices
WinXP <> Win 8.1 - 32-bit <> 64-bit - Native <> Virtualized app – Physical <> Virtual desktop
Supports simultaneously settings as well

With Predefined Settings you can configure settings and apply them:
- as initial Defaults
- Partial Enforced
- Fully Enforced
Predefined Settings can be created:
- Automatically with Immidio Application Profile on a “reference” machine
- Manually in Flex+ Management Console
Improve application packaging process
- Decouple application configuration from installation package
- One package, numerous configurations
- Less # application packages
User Environment settings available at application launch
- Map drives/printers
- Run custom tasks
- Create registry entries and populate profile folders (eg. AppData)
Use conditions to decide when to apply settings
- Can be used for all configurable items in VMware UEM
Simple, advanced and custom criteria available
- Group Membership, Organization Unit, IP ranges, OS version, registry, file version, etc.
Group conditions into globally managed condition-sets
- Can be used to define “workspaces” for easy administration
Use “UEM Refresh” to re-evaluate conditions in a session
- Automatic with Triggered Task or manually initiated using command line or desktop shortcut
Run custom or built-in “Triggered Tasks” during a session
- Configurable for lock/unlock workstation and reconnect/disconnect from VDI or RDS session
- Run custom task like closing a certain application when user disconnects from a VDI session
Initial configuration of VMWare User Environment Manager is done through GPO with the UEM ADMX files included wit the product. These control the overall configuration of the product and the way the FlexEngine behaves.
Two network shares are necessary:
The Central Config Share contains all of the . . .
xml for the FPMC
ini files for configurations for User Environment and application settings
Probably a bunch of other stuff as well.
The User Share
zip files for app and user environment settings
backup of configuration archives if it is setup
Endpoints managed with VMware User Environment Management include:
RDSH desktops and applications
VDI Desktops
Physical Desktops
Offlline physcial desktops can be managed with the Sync Agent
Active Directory is used to configure the behavior of the FlexEngine
The Management console writes all its configuration information to the Central Config Share
The Application Profiler writes all of its configuration information to the Centeal Config Share

Also new to Horizon 7 is the expansion of our display protocol portfolio. Adding to PCoIP, we now offer customers additional choice and flexibility with our brand new Blast Extreme display technology, purpose built and optimized for the mobile cloud. Built on industry standard H.264 protocol, Blast Extreme supports the broadest range of client devices, billions of them, that are already H.264 capable. Customers can choose between Blast Extreme, PCoIP and RDP based on their use cases and client device choices.
With the addition of Blast Extreme, we now offer a multiprotocol swiss-army knife that allows IT to select the protocol that best fits their user workstyles, networking geography and client device preferences. Supported within these protocols is a multifaceted suite of client-side features ranging from printing to smartcards to multimedia and more, accessible on an ever-widening suite of Horizon-optimized clients.
vRealize Operations for Horizon offers just that. It provides a single management console to monitor the entire stack, from end to end, in both Horizon and Citrix XenApp enviroments.
Insights into resource utilization allows you to reallocate as needed and optimize performance without overprovisioning.
Last but not least, a focus on end-point monitoring puts the spotlight on user experience and makes it easy to pinpoint problems and maintain service quality.
vRealize Operations for Horizon provides visibility into the total system. It monitors the entire stack, from the datacenter through to the end-users apps and sessions. And not only that- it now also supports both Horizon and XenApp environments. Because it is a comprehensive monitoring tool, vROPs is able to tell a coherent story across the entire system, and give you actionable insights to help you proactively manage your desktop and applications environment. For example, it can identify latencies during a user session and pinpoint system protocol as the underlying problem.
22
vROps provides detailed utilization and usage information to help you reallocate resources as needed. If Mary needs more compute power to help her crunch her large datasets, then her desktop can be provisioned accordingly. The ability to intelligently repartition resources allows you to avoid over-provisioning and optimize system performance.
And utilization historical information and trendlines helps you avoid surprises, plan for the future and drive Cap-ex investments at the right time.
Wouldn’t it be great to monitor the entire stack, from the datacenter through to the end user, and easily pinpoint system weaknesses, to prevent problems before they are problem?
Last but not least, a focus on end-point monitoring puts the spotlight on user experience and makes it easy to pinpoint problems and maintain service quality.
