My name is Jordan Hawkins, and I am currently a senior at Huntingdon Area High school. I would like
to obtain this internship for this upcoming summer. With my love for animals, maintenance of a high
academic standing at Huntingdon Area High school and my demonstration of a strong work ethic, I am a
valuable candidate for this position.
I have observed small animal surgeries and routine checkups while volunteering and job shadowing with
Dr. Brent Carlson at Allegheny Veterinary Hospital in Mount Union. I especially enjoy my time with
Doctor Carlson and the small animals he treats. I have expanded my experience with large animals with
Dr. Andrew Weichert where I have gained experience in the field of agriculture. Emergency care
experience at Metzger Animal Hospital with Dr. Frederick Metzger allowed me to gain insight into the
high pressure situations of animals on the brink of death. Volunteering at a Wildlife rehabilitation center
at Shaver’s Creek taught me hands on experience caring for snakes, turtles, and of course the many birds
of prey.
