1	 Complete the text with the appropriate forms of the

If you watch television tonight, how many adverts do
you think you (1) ? Ten, twenty, more?
If you had been watching TV in 1950s Britain, you

viewer sees 10,000 TV adverts annually.
Each advert promises us: ‘your life will be better if you
(3) this product.’ Adverts make us
(4) our lives could be different, but
they only offer one solution. (5) we
keep on shopping, we will be happy. This makes us

rich. Perhaps if we had more money to spend, then we
