b. Organising and planning skills – As the President, I managed a student activities budget

conducted a budgeting exercise where my team and I reviewed previous years’
spending, assessed our priorities for the new year and reallocated the funds as we saw
fit. Redundant committees and activities were cut, while new ones were created to
handle perceived new and needed roles. Also, I organised a Student Leaders’
Investiture for the committee heads to brainstorm novel ideas for the year with
implementation plans. I worked closely with the heads, encouraging them to try
something new that they previously could not try, instead of following in their seniors’
footsteps. A Review Board was then set up to monitor progress of the approved plans.
c. Innovation skill – Under my presidential year, I proposed re-conceptualising the
Temasek Hall block committees to enable a better structure to manage new challenges
and directed and worked with the media and publicity committees to re-design the
editorial approach for the internal publication, TH Ink for the undergraduates and
improved online media presence of Temasek Hall via a new web portal.
d. Fund raising and sponsorship marketing skills - As Joint Director, I was part of a six
undergraduates team charged with the responsibility to organise a run for 3,000 runners
to raise funds for charity. I was solely in-charge of sponsorships. I developed the skill
and knowledge on connecting and negotiating with potential sponsors/brands like 100
Plus, New Balance, Shups, financial institutions etc. I also had the opportunity to work
and co-ordinated the run with national organisations such as the National Council for
Youth and Sports.
