3. CAREER TO DATE:
2007 – Current: Earlex/ Now Part of Wagner Group (Nov2013) Guildford.
Technical Service Manager.
I joined the company in early 2007 as service assistant, when
the current Service Manger left towards the end of that year I
applied and was successful in my application for his position.
Wagner/Earlex manufactures a wide range of power products
for both the D.I.Y and Professional decorating market.
We as service are responsible for fault finding and trend
analysis of customer returns, also for repair and service of the
same.
Also we give both technical and product support on the phone
to both customers and retailers.
We also work closely with all departments in particular design
engineering and testing of new products.
2005 – 2007: Note – Career Break.
By the end of 2005 I was suffering a great deal of pain and was
diagnosed with osteo-arthritis to both hip joints which made
further work impossible. However, during 2006 I underwent two
total hip joint replacement operations from which I have now fully
recovered. I am therefore now able to seek full time employment
again.
2003 – 2005: Self Employed – Project Manager
Following redundancy, I decided to work as a Contract Project
Manager within the Retail and Office Interior Refurbishment
market as I had many contacts in this field. Over these two
years I worked for several Southern and Midlands based
companies running and managing sites ranging in contract
values from £20K to £750K.

4. 2002 – 2002: Gardener Engineering Co. Ltd - Tonbridge, Kent
On joining this company in February 2002, my brief was to
expand their market penetration direct to the end user rather
than their current trade sales only market. Unfortunately due to
an overall down-turn in their business levels and the overall cost
of their expansion programme, they were forced to make several
members of staff redundant. As my position was still very new
and the start-up costs were high, they decided to close this
section of their business and I was subsequently made
redundant.
2000 – 2002 Spacelink Commercial Interiors Ltd – Banstead, Surrey –
Sales/Project Management
In November 2000 I was offered and accepted a position as
Sales Project Manager with this company. My role involved
Sales, Costing and Project Management of Office Interior
Contracts such as Partitions. Mezzanine Floors, Mechanical and
Electrical Installations. Contracts varied in size from £25k to
£300k.
In December 2001, a Head Hunting Company approached me
looking for a Sales/Project Manager for a Mezzanine Floor
Manufacturer and Interiors company. I accepted their offer.
1993 – 1999 Welconstruct Co Ltd - Sales/Project Management
I decided at this point that I would like to return to the Materials
Handling, Storage Equipment and Office Interiors market.
Following a meeting with the MD of Welconstruct, I was offered
the position of Senior Area Sales Representative covering my
original area of Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex. I proved
successful in this role and in 1996 achieved ‘Top Representative’
for the Southern Region with a turnover of £1.4m. During 1999
there was a change of UK Sales Manager. On taking up his
position, he decided to concentrate the field sales effort more on
the Materials Handling and Storage Equipment side of the
product range and, as the majority of my sales had been more
Office Interiors based, I decided to concentrate more in this
market area and decided to seek a more suitable position within
this field.

5. 1983 – 1993 Teknis Limited – Godalming – Sales /Management
Teknis had three main product lines all allied to the Electronic
Manufacturing Industry, these being Static Control Products,
ATE (Automatic Test Equipment, Test fixtures for PCB testing
and various Glass to Metal products and Special Alloys for
Hybrid Component Manufacturing. On joining the company, the
turnover was circa £1.3m spread across all three product
ranges. The sales structure at that time comprised a UK Sales
Manager plus three external sales representatives.
In 1987 on departure of the UK Sales Manager, I was offered his
position which I accepted and relocated back to Surrey. Over
the next six years, the company went through several changes,
the main one being the purchase by the MD of the UK Company
outright from its US parent part-owner. During this period, I had
increased the sales force to four external and two internal and
increased the overall turnover year on year and, in my final year
with the company, the turnover was in excess of £4.5m.
In 1993, the MD decided to relocate the entire business to
Devon. Although it was with much regret, I decided that having
established myself back in Surrey, I did not wish to relocate
again. I therefore left the company.
1973 – 1983 Welconstruct Co Ltd - Birmingham – Sales/Project
Management
The company manufactured (within group) and marketed a large
range of Materials Handling, Storage Equipment and Office
Interior products. I joined them as Area Sales Representative
covering, Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex my role being to
give technical advice, design and sell to a wide ranging customer
base both in manufacturing and the commercial and retail
business sectors.
Within the first three years I had achieved the position of Senior
Sales Representative where I remained for a further six years.
During this period I had, year on year increased the turnover for
my area resulting in achieving ‘Top Salesman’ for four years in
succession.
In late 1982, Welconstruct decided to start a new division
called ‘Static Safe Environments’ to manufacture and sell a
range of products to the Electronics Manufacturing Industry to
give Product Protection from Electro Static Discharge.

6. I was offered and accepted the role of Senior Salesman for
this division which meant relocating to Birmingham. My area
comprised the whole of the UK and Northern Ireland. From
commencement in January 1983 until my departure later that
year, we had achieved sales of £600,000 with a staff of three
including myself. My reason for leaving the company was a very
good offer was made by one of our main suppliers to become
Area Sales Manager covering the Midlands, the North and
Scotland. After due consideration, I accepted their offer.
1971 – 1973 G.K.N Industrial Fastenings – Redhill - Sales
I joined as Area Salesman covering South East London and
North West Kent to sell and give technical support on the
company’s large range of industrial fastening products. My
accounts ranged from DIY outlets to large O.E.M’s such as Ford
Motor Co. Although I enjoyed my time with this company, I felt I
would like to sell a more technical product, involving more design
and product application.
1963 – 1971 Decca Radar Ltd - Apprenticeship
Locations: New Malden - Ship/Land Based Marine Radar
Chessington - Small Boat Marine Radar
Hersham - Avionics Radar Division
As an apprentice, I worked for six month periods in various
departments in order to gain experience in all aspects of the
business. This included Production Engineering, Inspection,
Purchasing, Drawing Office etc. and finally working at their
Hersham site within a small R&D Avionics Group. On
completion of my apprenticeship, I was offered a position of R&D
technician within the same group which I accepted, remaining
there for a further three years before leaving to pursue a career
in sales.
