1. Unit 5 – Contribute to good working relationships
Unit 2.1 – Explain the importance of balancing the needs of tasks and people.
When handing out tasks to different people it needs to be considered about their ability, how many
hours they work, what their workload is like at the time the project is set, if they have any upcoming
holidays booked in during the time the task is being done and other factors that may affect their
performance.
Unit 2.2 – Explain the importance of sharing information with colleagues.
When working with others it is essential to keep regular communication and information is always
recorded so there is a record for them to refer to. If there was no physical copy it could present an
issue if something hadn’t been completed. It’s a way to always have a clear record of what needs to
be done by whom.
Unit 2.3 – Identify ways of tactfully requesting others to change working arrangements to
improve own productivity
If there was an issue with someone on the same level or above me in the job, I would discuss any
issues with my manager as it’s not my place to get involved, or if I had to acknowledge a problem
with one of my members of staff the best way for me to bring up these issues would be supportively
rather than confrontationally, providing suggestions and advice rather than focusing on what they
are doing wrong. This creates a better working relationship.
Unit 2.4 – Describe how to explain own decisions clearly and constructively
To address the issues and explain your suggestions clearly, don’t drag it out when explaining how to
improve. Do not use technical terms colleagues may not understand, and when starting the
discussion make sure you focus on positives as well as the negatives of your work force.
Unit 2.5 - Describe how to resolve conflict situations or dissatisfaction
Before attempting to resolve conflict you must make sure you have all the correct information from
all sides of the argument. You also need to make sure there is no bias when making decisions as it
may cloud your judgement. This is all if it is your job to deal with it, if not it’s best not to get
involved. If you are in the conflict situation yourself make sure you are speaking to the appropriate
people, keep everything confidential as you don’t want to breach any company policies which could
go against you in the investigation.
Unit 2.6 – Explain the importance of liaison with colleagues to productivity
Lines of communication should be kept open so that everyone involved is fully aware of the progress
of a task and when there is called upon. This will keep people well aware of the situation in advance
so they can plan around it. Also if there is a change or a problem with the task being carried out
everyone is aware of it so there are no surprises to work with.
