1. Unit 3 – Awareness of converging digital technology in the creative media
sector
1.1 – Describe the uses of digital technology within the creative media sector and the
relationships this has created between industries in the sector.
Mobile phones can be used to listen to music through apps such as Spotify, I player and
Youtube. This works the same way with game consoles and certain televisions, for example
on the Xbox you have access to other online technologies which allow you to use apps such
as Netflix, 4 on demand and BBC Iplayer to name a few. These are all relationships created
through convergence.
1.2 – Describe key intellectual property and copyright issues related to digital technology
and content creation.
Due to open source data being so easily accessible, content was being used freely without
the necessary consent/permission you would usually require. This is how the creative
commons license came into place. The creative commons license lets other distribute and
even build upon your work as long as whoever uses it credits the creator for the original
creation.
