Erasmus+ is the new EU programme for education, training, youth, and sport with a €14.7 billion budget from 2014-2020. There are three main types of actions: Key Action 1 focuses on mobility of individuals, Key Action 2 supports cooperation for innovation, and Key Action 3 aids policy reform. The programme aims to streamline previous lifelong learning programmes and offer new elements like a loan guarantee for masters students and knowledge and sector skills alliances. Key Action 1 supports travel for study, work, teaching, and skills development. Key Action 2 enables organizations to collaborate, share practices, and work with industry. Application deadlines are in mid-March and late April 2014.

3. Erasmus+ is the new programme proposed by the European Commission for education,
training, youth and sport with a budget of €14.7 billion for the period 2014-2020.
Erasmus+ will start on 1 January 2014 and will continue to the end of 2020 as the ideal
of Lifelong Learning.
There are three main types of action proposed:
- Key Action 1: Learning Mobility of Individuals
- Key Action 2: Co-operation for Innovation and Good Practices
- Key Action 3: Support for Policy Reform
The Key Action 1 and the Key Action 2 will be managed by the UK National Agency which consists of British Council and Ecorys.
The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) is responsible for centralised actions.

4. The previous life long learning programmes will be streamlined in a new structure and will be
based on three Key Actions and two other activities: Jean Monnet and sport.
Erasmus Plus will offer two completely new elements:
1. Loan guarantee scheme for Master’s degree students
2. Knowledge alliances & Sector skills alliances

5. The Key Action 1 is for individuals, however, only through organisations, to strengthen cooperation, their
skills, enhance their employability and gain culture awareness. The learners and staff will be able to travel to
another participating country to study, work, teach, train and develop professional skills and key competences.
The target groups of this programme is for learners and young people and staff and youth workers. Activities
are dependent on the fields targeted by the project.

6. The Key Action 2 is about enabling organisations to work better together, share and/or implement
innovative practices. The projects will focus on sectoral and cross-sectoral co-operation with industry.

7. The call for applications to be made in 2014 is expected to be published in mid December 2013.
All organisations will need to be registered on the European Commission’s online registration
facility before applications can be started. This is KA2 form.
The deadline for application is mid March 2014.

8. Why Erasmus ?
Just who was D. Erasmus that his name is celebrated globally over 500
years after his life? He advised world leaders 500 years ago, our Maria Perry
Robinson MA (Oxon) dedicated her first chapter to him 26 years ago in The
Sisters of Henry VIII: The Tumultuous Lives of Margaret of Scotland and Mary
of France
Erasmus wrote much and his works exploded the market of the printed
written word through his Lutheran contacts in Switzerland. Shakespeare
quoted him in his plays. It was Erasmus’ Lutheran friends who published and
printed the writing of Krzysztof Kopernicus not the Catholic Church. Erasmus’
writings advise against war, greed, gluttony and vanity. Whatever their
religion, all leaders, managers and entrepreneurs should learn from his
teachings; what was good then is still good today and the future.
