2. Over the last 10 years Tamil Nadu has excelled in most of
development parameters except sanitation. Government
surveys have revealed that 90.8% of rural households and
96.1% of the urban households are electrified but
shockingly the overall coverage of piped sewerage in the
State remains at an abysmal low of 14.4%.

3. Set up a neighbourhood fund to construct a modest
costing Sulabh public toilet in your vicinity.

4. Be socially active. When you are part of like-minded
communities, everybody can put in whatever monetary
contribution possible over a period of time and adopt a
village in a rural district perhaps near to your residences
and help build toilets there.

5. Don’t urinate on public roads
if a toilet is nearby.

6. Give soaps and washing aids as a
gift hamper to the less fortunate
on festive occasions. Tell them
to wash their hands thoroughly
with soap and water after any
contact with faeces; before
touching or preparing food; and
before feeding children.
