Tennis Night Out
To introduce a new sport to the Baltimore City Amber Peters will host a Tennis Night
Out in August 2015. This Tennis Night Out will take place at Druid Hill Park in Baltimore City.
Youth that come out will be able to learn concepts and rules of Tennis. Information of high
schools and colleges with Tennis teams will also be presented to participants and parents. The
goal of Tennis Night Out, is to encourage students to explore new sports, become active, and
attend school.
Druid Hill Park is located in the middle of a low-class community, with few middle-class
families. The youth in this particular neighborhood are living amongst drugs, violence, police
surveillance, and poverty. They enjoy listening to rap music, making money, sexually activity,
and drug and/or alcohol intake. Due to the environment and surround conditions of Druid Hill
Park, clothed and non-clothed police will be present for safety reasons. It is expected that most of
youth will be uninterested, unconcerned, and easily frustrated when trying to play this new sport.
The Mondawmin Mall strive economically, as it is the only mall that serves 5+
zip codes. Most stores located in the mall are black owned and/or managed. Many of these
employers have agreed to sponsoring or donating to this event. Some also plan to attend the
event, as well as encourage their customers to bring their families. This is an important
promotion as these are faces the community already have relationships with.

our street team will visit the basketball courts at Druid Hill Park to discuss our upcoming event.
Raffle tickets will be sold for $1.00 at the registration table. Donated gift cards along with extra
event t-shirts will be gifted to winners.
Druid Hill Park was selected because of its location. The community the park is in has
been through a lot. Some of the youth in this area do not receive support from adults and city
leaders. The goals of this event will greatly benefit those that call this area home. Druid Hill Park
also have the largest number of Tennis Court in West Baltimore. The local high schools in this
area have limited space for tennis to be played, watched, and enjoyed. This park is a city
attraction that is the place for many family, and community orientated events.
People will be able to sit in the grass or on park benches nearby. Chairs will be available to
those volunteering at the registration, and concessions tables. The registration table will be set up
on the sidewalk left to the tennis courts. The concessions table will be on the right of the tennis
courts. Church buses will be used as transportation to and from park restrooms. The bus will
began operation two hours after the event starts and stop an hour before ending. Parking is
permitted along the street of the park. There is also open grass space for volunteers to park.
This event will influence how the rest of Baltimore view the youth in this area. The media
will help show these youth learning and engaging in something out of the box for them. The
program booklet will be used to inform and communicate with the community. The program
booklet will have information on the history of tennis, along with schools in Baltimore, and local
colleges with Tennis Teams. The churches involved will open the door to popular support as
churches have the power to influence the community. The entire event launches the idea of a
new sport. Many of the youth that will participate are accustomed to playing basketball or
football. Press interviews, social media post, conversations at the event, and evaluations will help
measure the impact of this event. To cope with crisis we will have police enforcement on
standby. A rain date has been placed on the calendar in the event of a storm. The local grocery
store will be used if we run out water. Wilson will be bringing rackets to sell/ distribute for those
without one.
