1. A short Biography of Torgbiga Addo VIII
On April 21, 1932, a brilliant Royal male child was born by madam Koshiwor Ametsime, a native of
Anlo Afiadenyigba to Torgbi Addo IV. The royal child was the second born of his mother.
At the age of eight years, I began my elementary school education at Zion primary school in Keta.
In March 1943, I abandoned schooling for more than a year when my father passed on. When
Addo V was enstooled as the next King after my father, he presided over my school affairs for
some time. In 1945, I had to change schools from Zion primary to Somey National School due to
my several years of absence. By God’s grace with talent, I spent only two years in primary school
before proceeding to middle school in 1945.
In 1952, in middle form 2, I sat for the common entrance examination and passed with a half
scholarship valued at 30 out of 49 pounds. However, due to financial difficulties, I could not raise
the amount of money to enable me to enter secondary school. My inability to enter or fulfill the
scholarship infuriated Mr.Atsitsogbui, my schoolmaster, who recognized my hidden mathematical
talents.
With all these hardships and struggles, I never gave up my hopes of attending a tertiary
institution.
There was no one to lean on than proceeding to my grandma - Adekehlor. I went into farming
cassava and maize to augment my financial constraints. The seasonal farming condition was not
in my favor during the harvesting.
I had to abandon the idea of proceeding to secondary school due to the financial constraints that
countered me. I continued from middle form two to form three in the year 1953. On my return, I
went to EP school, where Mr. Agamah became our class teacher after his return from Krobo
Odumase Secondary School.
I again sat for the common entrance examination in 1953 and passed with a full scholarship to
enter Government Secondary Technical School in Takoradi.
I taught briefly as a pupil teacher at Agbakorpe near Akatsi.
I completed my tertiary education at the University of Cape Coast in 1964. Being the pioneer of
Cape Coast University, we passed out after two years of teaching expeditions. I thought for two
years and had to return to complete my tertiary education in 1964. I successfully obtained my
B.Sc ( Maths) in the year 1964 from Legon, since Cape Coast University was an affiliate of Legon.
My first posting was to St. Francis Training College at Hohoe, where I taught for five years.
I was posted to Peki College of Education and later transferred to Jasikan College, where I taught
for nine years. The Ghana Education Service seeing my values, promoted me to Principal
Superintendent in 1976.
I voluntarily retired from teaching at St Francis College Hohoe.
I was installed as the Paramount Chief of Klikor on May 1, 1982, at Ablorgame Stool house.
I am blessed with 18 children.
ACHIEVEMENTS OF TORGBIGA ADDO VIII
2. Electrifications of Klikor Traditional Area: During my reign as the Paramount Chief of Klikor
Traditional Area, I did my best by requesting from the then government a High Extension Power
line for the people of Klikor Traditional Area, which was permitted.
WATER:
Drinking water was one primary basic need for the Klikor Community. I tried as their leader to
solve the water problem for Klikor. Today we have good drinking water to depend on through my
call on TV3 during the Togolese refugee era.
The intervention of government or Non-governmental Organizations in solving the scarcity of
water issues in Klikor enables both the natives and refugees to live in comfort. This request was
responded to by world vision and other NGOs a few weeks after the proposal. The response from
the NGOs enabled the mechanization of the old borehole dug by my predecessor Addo VI( Kakpo
Sukkah Doe Fia)
ROAD: As the paramount Chief, I realized there was no proper road linking my communities. With
the help of a few eminent persons, we decided to create new routes through Klikor's main town
to connect all the villages without the support of the then government. These efforts manifested
with the help of IGP Retired CK Dewornu. Some of these roads were named after me ( Addomor).
EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: As Educationist, I brought massive Educational awareness and
infrastructural improvement to Klikor Traditional Area by establishing a new school in the middle
of the central Town called Klikor Ablorgame Basic School, now Klikor Unity School where this
occasion is taking place. The existing school models were changed by monitoring all school
activities. Furthermore, with the help of some individuals, we negotiated with the government to
establish Klikor Senior High school. I'm also an examiner for the West African Examination
Council during my teaching era and after retirement.
Between 1978-1979, I was a Vice Chairman of the Mathematical Associate of Ghana, a post I
served with diligence and pride.
CHIEFTAINCY: I never deviated from my primary calling. I had to increase the number of
divisional chiefs and sub-chiefs by eliminating the old Hanua system of administration.
I played a decisive vital role in Anlo Traditional Council as the acting president. It will interest us
that I played a crucial role in installing a few paramount Chiefs, such as Torgbi Sri III, Torgbiga
Wenya III, Dutor of Anlo Kingdom, and Torgbiga Dadzie of Penyi, all in the southern Volta region
of the Republic of Ghana.
RELATIONSHIP: I played a pivotal role in bringing five Traditional Areas who were once together
as families to form a Union called“Zendo, “which materialized between Klefe, Kpeve, Tsiblu,
Tsorxor, and Klikor.
BOOKS: In 1972, I was part of a group of mathematicians who wrote Modern Mathematics for
Secondary Schools. Professor Alleley Williams from the Unsuta University in Nigeria and I again
wrote a mathematics book for tertiary institutions in 1972.
