Kulkarni, a great social worker, on the third anniversary(19th February
1918) of Late Gopal Krishna Gokhale, an eminent educationist and
national leader of the times. This was a fitting tribute to his memory as
he devoted his entire life to the cause of education.
ABOUT GOKHALE EDUCATION SOCIETY
LATE PRIN. T. A. KULKARNI LATE GOPAL KRISHNA GOKHALE
3. LATE PRIN. T. A. KULKARNI
Born on 5th September 1882 at Pali in Kolaba District.
He passed his B.A. in 1904, from Wilson College, Bombay.
During his school days, his failing health disturbed him in his
studies. But with the transfer of his father to Dhulia he found himself
engrossed in gymnasium and paid attention to his health. He
improved his physique through various physical exercises and
therefore he impressed upon the youth the need of physical
education, throughout his life.
Prin. T. A. Kulkarni considered his students as his superiors as he
thought it was his prime duty to satisfy them. This was voiced by
him when asked by his Inspectorial staff on their routine visits.
Though he enjoyed his days with pupils as a teacher of merit he
disliked to remain in Government service. In 1911 his services were
transferred to Thane which was very inconvenient for him to
continue.
4. In 1912 he resigned from the government service and started
his own school where he introduced, along with academic
subjects, handicraft and technical training.
Till 1923 there were no facilities for higher education other
than Bombay and Pune. Desirous and deserving students
from Nashik and around could not avail facilities of higher
education as it was beyond their pockets.
With a sizable donation that he received from H. P. T. Trust he
started first college, first of its kind outside Bombay and Pune.
Now that campus of 70 acres, which is named after late T. A.
Kulkarni as Prin. T. A. Kulkarni Vidyanagar, Nasik-5, has a
wide range of diversified courses. It has Arts, Science,
Commerce, Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing and Law colleges
conducting Post-Graduate courses and all branches of
business management.
5.
6. He was a member of the Senate of the University of Bombay
till 1946.
He wanted to bring social reforms through a channel of
education made available to different sections of society.
Late Prin. T. A. Kulkarni had an astounding personality with
magnetism. He could attract the people with his lovable
speech, faithful approach to ‘service before self’, sportive
outlook of life and kindness to the poor and downtrodden
community.
Service was the soul of Prin. T. A. Kulkarni and education was
the skeleton. The confluence of the two was the reformative
progress of those needy and poor lives of Maharashtra.
