1. BIOGRAPHY
Collester kibet korir
Collester kibet korir was born in the year 1995 to the family of Mr. and Mrs.
Sammy korir and Roselyne korir of Chesingoro village. He began his education studies in
the year 1999 at Kusumek primary school. His learning continued in the school to
standard 2 when his parents decided to take him to a private school in litein. This was
way back in the year 2001. He began from standard 2 at st. mark’s academy (2002). St.
Mark’s academy really improved his education level up to standard 8 (2008) when he
sat for his KCPE national exams. His performance was average with a total marks of 335.
Collester on finishing his primary level of studies was passed through initiation to
transform from childhood to adulthood. This was done at Mr. Mibei Theophilus’ home
with other four initiates. Initiation was on December 2008. He also gained various
knowledge concerning the normal life of an adult. The initiation was based on
Christianity, deliverance church Kimulwo being the sponsor church for the event.
Collester was given a third name Arap Koech although it could not be registered in the
national records.
Kibet was called for admission to Koiwa boys’ High school which is situated in
Bomet County. There, he studied for a term then later transferred to a sponsor school in
Kitale named North Rift Educational Center. He was transferred to this school because
of fees problem that his parents could not afford at that time. Collester became one of
the bright students at NOREC and more so gained leadership skills. He was once a leader
of the Scouting Club at NOREC. They were also thought on various farming skills during
their free time. Collester stayed at NOREC for two terms which marked the end of his
form one studies. He was noted to have a potential of scoring high in the then
forthcoming KCSE examinations. All these were way back in the year 2009.
January 2010, things went astray and NOREC collapsed due to poor management
and withdrawal of the sponsor. This called on collester’s parents to look for a different
school for the later studies. Luckily enough they got admission to Tengecha Boys’ High
school located in kapkatet division. Tengecha School was one of the best performing
schools in Kericho County. He was promoted to form 2 by Mr. Too who was the acting
principal in absence of Mr. Koech the principal. Collester continued with his education
for three years up to form four in the year 2012 when he did his KCSE examination.
Way back when he was in form three, he went through challenges. Fire struck
tengecha boys’ classrooms and his study materials were brought down to ashes. At the
same time his father Sammy got ill, suffered from a cancerous disease of the liver. This
2. caused a financial crisis at their home. Luckily enough they were compensated and
learning came back to normal. More facilities were even brought to the school which
aided to the success of tengecha boys. Later on when he was in form 3, his father
succumbed to death from his illness. It caused a lot of emotional trauma. Those were
the tough experiences in his studies at tengecha boys’ high school. Grandmother
Zipporah gave a hand in this educational journey of collester. She promised to pay him
fees for collester from form two to the university which she fulfilled. Thanks to her for
her great support.
Despite the challenges faced in high school, God was merciful and blessed the
work of each and every person who gave support to collester by making him pass. He
had a mean grade of A- with an aggregate points of 77. He was then qualified to join
Maseno University to study a course in the school of Agriculture. Collester did BSC in
Agribusiness management with IT.
02/09/2013 is when collester was admitted to Maseno University.Life in the
university began well although not missing challenges. Collester became a devoted
Christian and was baptized in the Christian union. This was on the date 05/07/2014. This
made a turn out in his spiritual life. He grew spiritually through services and bible
studies carried out by the Christian Union. He also trained to be an instrumentalist
playing the keyboard and the guitars (solo and bass guitars). On his second year in the
union, he was called upon to assist the All Saints ACK church in the instrumentation to
be a keyboard player. He Joined the All saints ACK church and worked together with the
choir, praise and worship of that church.
Challenges not missed in the university were the regular strikes and riots.
Collester faced another challenge walking for long distance within the university. He had
to walk for long distances to access the necessary desires like going for lectures, going to
church and looking for food. Another challenge being insecurity where students were
sometimes murdered by the nearby villagers (wanyore). Poor accommodation is also a
matter of concern, students are forced to look for rooms to sleep far from the school.
This could be a factor that affects the students’ security.
Thanks to the maseno university for it offers its courses with information
technology. This is the reason why maseno University graduates are a hot cake to the
job market. This where collester gained various knowledge on computer.
Collester is currently a fourth year student in the institution.
