6. Campus Relationships & Why they’re Important
> Brings awareness to the
library
> Drives students to the
library
> Creates partnerships that
makes the library stronger

7. Librarians know why people should
use the library. Everyone else has
to be convinced that we have
something for them.

8. Cold calls
-make an unsolicited call on
(someone), by telephone or
in person, in an attempt to
sell goods or services.
How we can start
Cold Emails
-A cold email is an
unsolicited e-mail that is
sent to a receiver without
prior contact. It could also be
defined as the email
equivalent of cold calling.

10. Events
Why:
> Brings students in
> Brings together the library and other
departments, student organizations, community
organizations, etc.
> Keeps the library in everyone’s mind
> Associates libraries with not just education but also
with a place of fun and relaxation

Future Events
1. After the event is
done and
successful you
can then contact
that organization
again to plan
further events
2. They will also
spread the word
about working with
you
Planning
1. You reach out to
organization(s) you
would like to work
with.
2. You begin planning
the event.
Event Happens
1. The event happens
amidst marketing
around campus
through both the
library’s reach and
the other
organizations reach
14. Success and Failure
14
Outreach doesn’t always work
● There will be ghosting
and emails that do not
get returned
● Be flexible
● Create an email
template
18. Initiative
18
Collaborate with as many
departments and student
groups as possible with
events and/or activities.
This can be as big as a
speaker and as small as a
display
19. How this has worked so far
We’ve had a good response from outside
departments!
> There has been some non-response
> But we have repeat collaborators!
19
20. Future
Create more relationships around campus via
collaboration with current collaborators.
> Use specific months as a way to reach out to student
groups and departments
> Create a yearly calendar so that we can be as
transparent as possible about what students can
expect
