6. National Grid – Who We Are
National Grid is an international electricity and gas company based
in the UK and northeastern US. We play a vital role in connecting
millions of people to the energy they use, safely, reliably and
efficiently.
In the UK, we own the electricity transmission system in England
and Wales, and own and operate four of the eight regional
distribution networks in Great Britain.
In the northeast United States, we own and operate gas and
electricity distribution networks serving the needs of over 7 million
consumers. We currently have approximately 15,000 employees in
the US.
We hold a vital position at the center of the
energy system. National Grid is at the heart of
securing energy supplies for future generations.
8. Graduate Development Program (GDP) Overview

The objective of GDP is to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles
within the organization. Graduates will have opportunities to gain practical, business and
leadership experience through direct involvement within multiple functions within their
Jurisdiction through an intensive and rewarding program with challenging and attainable
objectives.
Program begins 1st week in June
8-Week Introduction to National Grid
2 week orientation
Introduction to Gas and Electric Operations
Safety
Ethics
4 weeks in Jurisdiction with Community Leaders
1 week in Customer, including Marketing and Account Management
1 week in Shared Services, including Call Centers and Process Excellence
Note: Engineering Development Program track is being developed for 2014
Placement in functional area after introduction period
Continued developmental workshops throughout year one
9. Summer Intern Program
National Grid is pleased to offer PAID internships starting May 2014
ending in August 2014 for current college students seeking to gain
experience with a world-class organization. Various internships are
available companywide for college students studying the following
fields:
Electrical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Business
Accounting
Finance
Marketing
Responsibilities will vary based upon your course of study and the
business unit to which you are assigned.
