Cognitive scientists determined that
     people’s short-term memory is very
limited – it can only process so much at
            once. A lot of the information
presented in a typical lecture comes at
          students too fast and is quickly
                                 forgotten.
 Eric Mazur is the Balkanski Professor of
  Physics and Applied Physics at Harvard
  University and Area Dean of Applied
  Physics.
 As a physics professor Eric Mazur
  wanted a higher impact method of
“Lecture”
 Read, Think, Reflect.

  • 2. A lecture is an oral presentation intended to present information or teach people about a particular subject, for example by a university or college teacher. (Wikipedia)
  • 3.  What is a lecture in today’s college environment?  What are the components of an effective lecture?  What are the limitations of lecture?  Tips and Tricks
  • 4. Cognitive scientists determined that people’s short-term memory is very limited – it can only process so much at once. A lot of the information presented in a typical lecture comes at students too fast and is quickly forgotten.
  • 5.  Eric Mazur is the Balkanski Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at Harvard University and Area Dean of Applied Physics.  As a physics professor Eric Mazur wanted a higher impact method of “Lecture”  Read, Think, Reflect.
  • 6. Large audiences now Rooms of 30 + -  Long “speeches” now 10 -12 Minute Section  Lack of value now Provide relevance  Physical room now Classroom Management  Speaker now SME
