1. 5 Reasons to Support a Homeless Artist
From Homeless to Artist
2. Art gives the homeless a sense of
accomplishment. It is easy to lose pride and
self-confidence when trying to overcome a
tough situation. Creating their own artwork
gives them something to be proud of. They
can also have a sense of identity by being
that "amazing artist" instead of homeless
man or woman.
Accomplishment
3. Each of us faces stress throughout our
lives but imagine how much more stressful
life would be if you were homeless. Art
allows the homeless to release stress in a
creative way which can help prevent the
use of drugs, alcohol and other harms that
they might turn to.
Stress Relief
4. According to the Art Therapy Blog
(arttherapyblog.com), art therapy "can
be beneficial to those who have severe or
light emotional abuse, cancer, PTSD
and a variety of other serious ailments."
Healing
5. Creating art allows the homeless to
interact and meet people they never
would have otherwise. Meeting with the
right professional artists could change
their lives for the better.
Cures Loneliness
6. Art allows them to develop professional
skills for the workplace. They have to learn
how to create something with very limited
resources. Programs like ours also teach
them about budgeting, marketing and time
management. Websites like Instagram also
allow them to showcase their work for free!

7. Why You Should Support
Poverty & the Arts
So you may be confused as to why we are trying to raise money to help
the homeless become artists instead of securing food and clothing. Our
homeless are among the hundreds in Nashville who reside in a homeless
camp so therefore their basic needs are met. While providing food and
shelter is highly important, we want to do more for our homeless by
connecting them with opportunities that will change their lives and
provide extended long-term effects. Many people who are homeless are
chronically homeless meaning that they have been homeless for more
than a year or experienced homelessness more than four times in a three
year period. If the homeless are provided with the opportunity to develop
professional skills, they will be more likely to break free from
homelessness. This is why we developed the Adopt A Homeless Artist
program. Donate to our program to day to help these homeless men and
women rise above poverty and go from homeless to artist!
