Some of our guest writers for this issue:
Brian Avery and his wife, Marina, have three
children with stunning academic credentials,
each tracking toward rewarding careers.
After entertaining questions about how their
children performed so well, and listening to
dismissals that not everyone can be a genius,
the author is sharing the approach he and his
wife took. He is an environmental manager
for a steel company in Alabama. Both he and
his wife have a formal education in
engineering.

. Wen Chi Chien, founder of Zen Institute, came to
America from Taiwan in 1990 to pursue a master's
degree in counseling. Within one year, her father died
and her husband abandoned her. Three years earlier,
her mother had died of a stroke. With no children,
and no support from family and friends, she was at a
point where there was nothing for her to look forward
to. Suicidal and ready to end her life, a part of her was
desperate for the tools so she could learn how to live
with herself. After meeting with several therapists it
took one night in the backyard gazing at the stars to
realize that she loved this life and this world. She
eventually opened the Zen Institute. Zen Institute
offers a ground-breaking treatment model that
consists of four treatment modalities: CBT, DBT, EMDR
and Inner Twin therapy. It is different than the
traditional kind of psychotherapy, yet it is very powerful. As one goes through the
process, one will know that you are the one in charge of your life, and will no longer live
in fear nor loneliness. You will be able to feel unshakable inner peace and total self-
confidence! http://www.myzeninstitute.com/

Bobbi Hamilton, CYT (Certified Yoga Teacher), left her
position as a published cancer researcher at UCSF/Mt.Zion
Medical to focus on creating solutions for the childhood
obesity epidemic. Applying her laboratory skills to field
research she conceptualized a cnew kind of engaging play-
along fitness video for kids and created/produced Animal
Yoga which aired on PBS Kids as promo spots getting kids
off the couch in between programming for three years
reaching an estimated 20 million households. Bobbi created
the Phresh Yoga Mats from over ten years of research,
teaching, play-testing, and producing fitness content for
kids and families. The Phresh mats and programs are
intended to be teaching tools to help kids learn
independently, and to help teachers, therapist, and
parents easily implement yoga and exercise into classroom,
PE, afterschool, and homes. It’s Bobbi’s passion to make fitness fun, and to serve by
contributing solutions for a healthier generation of kids and families.

Great Finds:OZ Naturals
Over the several months I have been reviewing several products within the OZ Natural
line. This is not a line that is found in the local stores, it is an internet line. I have to let
you know about it because they are an amazing line, and they are affordable.

.
Super Youth Eye Gel is wonderful! It takes very, very
little! A very little, I stress that! It is soft and natural
and leaves the skin around your eyes feeling so nice
and soft. I have sensitive eyes, and I have used eye gel
that has left my eyes burning. This leaves no irritation
in my eyes. I really love this eye gel!
Vitamin C Serum Contains 20% Vitamin C + Amino
Complex + Hyaluronic Acid Serum. All of ths is
supposed to mean something, I did do some
research and I found out that Hyaluronic Acid is a
great healing force. What I like about it is that it is
not greasy, it literally feels like you put water on
your face. I have oily skin, and using this serum, I
don’t have a very oily face at the end of the day. I
really like it!

Ocean Mineral Tonic is wonderful, toner as it is
normally referred to. It is in a spray bottle, and
you simply spray your face. I do rub it in a little
bit. I like the freshness. It has all the cool stuff,
vitamin C, glycolic acid and witch hazel. And,
again, affordable.
Ancient Orient Rice Enzyme Dermafoliant, first of
all, I lovce the name! But most of all, I love this
facial scrub. It is so soft, yet cleanses so well. I
like it for in-between using a mask. (Okay, I admit,
sometimes I forget to use a mask because this
facial scrub does such a good job!)
Olive and Jojoba Oil Body Souffle, isn’t that an
awesome name! Body Souffle…love it! This was one of
the lotions that I wanted to keep for myself
completely…and then my daughter had spa pamper night
with her friends. I heard a plea, “We need lotion! We
forgot lotion!” Unfortunately the lotion that was handy
was this. And, I haven’t seen it since!! Not sure if those
young ladies used it all up or if my daughter has
confiscated it! It is amazing! It actually absorbs, no left
over slick stuff.

Life Image –Shopping on a
Budget
By Carolyn Bendall
Saving money while shopping requires mind over matter…or
knowledge over impulse. Stores are set up for the moment.
We are trained to shop for the moment. Every year the USMC celebrates their birthday
with a ball, a formal ball. In October the Exchange on the base brings out formals for the
women to purchase for the ball. Now, knowing that this never deviates on the date,
shopping throughout the year for a formal for this ball makes more sense that paying full
price in October, or the first week of Novemeber. We have that type of situation within
our lives continually, however, we still shop for the occasion.
First, evaluate what is in your wardrobe right now. Go through it at the end of a season
and pull out those items that you did not waer the entire season. If you didn’t even pull
it out for consideration, then this is a piece of your wardrobe that you do not need. What
is the reason, is it the right color for you skin tone? Is it the right style for you body type?
Is it even your personality? Knowing each of those three traits of yourself will help with
shopping.
First, your color palette. We do color analysis via the internet now and it is just a few
mintues to find out what your best colors are. This does make a difference, if it is an
item that you just never make it out of the house while wearing, this is a big indication
that you don’t really like the way you look in it. Then, your body type, this is a little
more intense, but again, we can now do that consultation via the internet, too. Are you
a tapered hip or a high hip? Should you wear pleated pants or flat front pants? Lastly,
your personality. What do you like, a simple sweater set with minimal jewelry? Or are
you more comfortable in a wild top with large jewelry? There are four different
personalities that should be matched with clothing so that you know you are not buying
something just because your friend likes it.
Cleaning out is the hardest, because we actually paid real money for those items hanging
in our closets! But, let’s think about this. Just how much money is sitting in your closet
doing nothing for you? Do you have five items your paid $25 a piece for? That is $125
sitting in your closet doing nothing. Reality? Do you have five items in your closet that
cost $100 that you are not wearing, ever? That is Disneyworld in Orlando FL, USA,
hanging in your closet doing nothing. Yes, knowledge and shopping go together.
This guide will help you to clean out your wardrobe and to plan a better
shopping plan.
The first group is how to evaluate your wardrobe.
http://www.fashionacademy.biz
WEARABLES REPAIRABLES DISCARDS
These are the clothes that
you can take out of the
closet and wear just as
they are, perhaps they
need ironed, but other than
that they are immediately
wearable.
These are the clothes that
are missing a button, the
hem has fallen out, a seam
is open, or maybe they
need to be altered. They
should not be in your
closet. This leads to you
stating as you look at a
closet full of clothes, “I
have nothing to wear!”
There are really two forms
of discards. Those that are
just worn out or that you
don’t like anymore, they
need to go. The other are
the ones that are not the
right size, whether they are
too small or too big. They
should be placed in a box
away from the closet,
marked what size they
actually are. You may
bring them back to the
closet when you fit into
them again. If you do not
pull out that box in a year,
it gets taken to Goodwill.
For this activity, you will do it twice a year for 3 weeks. This is to evaluate how well your
wardrobe is working for you, and where you need to make changes. You will do this
about every 3 to 5 years.
WHAT I WORE WHERE I WENT WHAT I WISH I HAD
WORN
In this column you will
write down what you wore
In this column you will
write down where you
went. This may change
during the day, depending
on where your day takes
you. Walking the dog,
cleaning the house, going
to work, going to the
movies, etc.
In this column you write
down what you wish you
had worn instead of what
you did wear. If each time
you wore your blue shoes,
you wished you had other
blue shoes..why? Do they
hurt? Are they not dark
enough? This is the column
where you will evaluate
your wardrobe and find the
problems. Sometimes you
will, ‘exactly what I
wore!’, then you know that
item is perfect for you.

The Secret of Happiness
By Wen Chi Chien, M.A. LPC
AFTER SUFFERING FROM SEVERE ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, TRAUMAS AND
ADDICTION FOR 30 YEARS OF MY LIFE, JUST A FEW YEARS AGO I FIGURED OUT THE SECRET OF
HAPPINESS!
I’ve read thousands of books, and I’ve done 17 years of professional work as a
psychotherapist. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for… to share the secret of
happiness with you! Are you ready to hear about it?
Everything in this world falls into two categories: Things under my control and things not
under my control. Do you agree?
There are five things that out of our control! What are they? Other people’s thoughts,
other people’s feelings, other people’s behaviors, the past, and the future. Such as
someone put you down, someone is upset with you, someone did something that hurt you,
and you unconsciously get stuck in the things that happened in the past or the things you
imagine that might happen in the future…
Now, look back in the last 12 months, how much time and energy have you spent trying to
control those 5 things that are absolutely out of your control? Now, take a look how much
time do you have left to control the things that are absolutely under your control? I bet
not much!
The truth is that you have power to choose! You can choose to focus on things under your
control or not under your control. No one can point a gun at you and say that you have to
focus on the things that are absolutely out of your control. Even a prisoner gets to
choose to focus on the things that are under his/her control and live a happy life!
So the question is why are we trying to control the things that are absolutely out of our
control? It might be because we do it out of unconscious habit. The consequence is that
we are going to be frustrated, angry and feeling completely powerless all the time!

The Secret of Happiness (Continued)
Make a commitment today: Don’t waste your time and energy focusing on the things that
are out of your control! You might ask, “What do I do when I recognize the things that
bothers me that is one of those 5 things? My answer is “Let go”.
How do we let go? Here are two pieces of advice for you...
1. Live your life like water:
Why water? Water is the strongest and softest substance in the world, you can never use a
knife and cut the liquid form of water in half, you will hardly see water going upstream
by itself, yet water always finds its way out! Water will never have a head on collision
with someone. Water is humble, gentle and wise. Let’s me ask you, what are you made
of? Yes! Water! 73% of the body weight of an infant is water. Live your life like water,
accept the reality and love what is, it’s a guarantee that you will live a life that is happy
and peaceful.
2. Be present:
The definition of Zen is that “There is no reality outside of here and now.” When you
spend current moment and get stuck in the past or the future, your life is slipping right in
front of you. I remember in 1988, when I saw my mom lying on the hospital bed and
being paralyzed from a stroke, I realized that there was not much difference between my
Your True Colours Vol. 2
Issue 2
A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 20 Your True Colours
mom and me. Physically she was paralyzed from head to toe and all she could do was
blink her eyes. Emotionally and spiritually I was paralyzed, because I couldn’t help keep
going to the past and future, and the consequence of that was feeling completely helpless
and powerless. This eye-opening experience inspired me to create this tool to help you
be present. I call it “3 boxes”.
Imagine there are three boxes in front of you, on the left the box represents the past; on
the right the box represents the future, and the box in the middle represents here and
now.
If you want to experience shame and guilt, which box do you focus on? The past! If you
want to experience fear, which box do you focus on? The future! If you want to
experience love, peace and joy, which box do you focus on? Yes, the answer is Here and
Now! Just that simple!
In reality, the past is done, you can’t go back to fix it no matter how remorseful you are.
The future is not here, but you can scare yourself to death by thinking about the worst
scenario and all kinds of what ifs. You will end up being paralyzed by this kind of
neurotic fear. This neurotic FEAR stands for “False Evidence Appearing Real”!
If you use this moment and focus on your past and/or your future, you are creating a life
that is absolutely delusional because, “there is no reality outside of here and now.” So,
why would you create a life that is delusional? Why would you choose to spend time being
paralyzed? Do you have power to choose to be present?” Yes! Absolutely yes!
The untrained mind will constantly take you to the past and the future. That is why it is
very difficult for you to stay present. Here is a simple exercise you can do to stay
present: Identify everything in your surroundings in a very quick fashion. You will notice
that your anxiety goes down, simply because in the moment no one is attacking you, your
house is not on fire, you are OK exactly where you are!
Over the years, I have searched for the secret of happiness and I have discovered: the
secret of happiness is actually linked to living a meaningful life. With everything I have
learned in my life, my conclusion for the meaning of life is: All of us are here on the earth
to learn the following three things: love, forgive and create. We are here to learn how to
Your True Colours Vol. 2
Issue 2
A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 21 Your True Colours
The Secret of Happiness (Continued)
love ourselves and others, forgive ourselves and others, and take full responsibility to
create a life just the way we want it!
Now, we have chosen not to waste our time focusing on the things that are out of our
control, we get to focus on the things absolutely under our control. What are the things
that will bring us happiness? Love, forgive and create the life just the way we want it!
In closing, I would like to share with you my favorite quote: “Love is that I am everything,
wisdom is that I am nothing, between the two, my life moves…”

Wellness: Shopping on a Budget
By Kally Efros
EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN FEELINGS ABOUT GROCERY SHOPPING. WE ALL DO IT. SOME LIKE IT. SOME
DREAD IT. REGARDLESS, WE ALL CAN LEARN TO SHOP ON A BUDGET. Shopping on a budget can lead
to weight loss and a healthier diet. How? Because you will learn to shop, cook, and eat
better. Sure, there are convenient foods available throughout the grocery store, but you
are paying for the packaging, the processing, and with that extra cost, you receive all kinds
of ingredients that you don’t need or want. Here are some of my tips for a healthier and
more enjoyable grocery shopping experience.
Have a budget in mind and don’t vary from it. The exercise of
planning a realistic budget for the family’s groceries can be
shared with your significant other. Once you’ve got your budget,
work through a plan using the weekly ads. Base the week’s meals
around sale items, always keeping fresh fruits and vegetables at
the center of your plan. There are software apps now available
to help you calculate your menu cost. Even if you don’t have a
tight budget, having a price in mind will help you stick to
whatever your monthly goal is.
Start your shopping list during the week by writing down items you need. By starting your
list during the week and keeping a runny tally of things you need, you won’t forget them
on shopping day.
Write a grocery list of exactly what you need. Using your plan, think of breakfast, lunch,
dinner, snacks, and household items. Also, remember staple items that you normally keep
on hand so that you don’t have to run out later in the week when you need something.
Taking a general inventory of what you have on hand is very helpful.
Hold yourself accountable. As I purchase items, I cross it off my list. I use the Todoist
app. This helps me focus on only what I need. Holding myself accountable keeps me from
overspending and finding a surprise at the end of my shopping trip.
General rules for going to the grocery store. Don’t go to the grocery store hungry. Don’t
bring kids or a spouse that will detour you from your list. If it’s not on the list, don’t buy
it. Don’t go when you are feeling really rushed. By using a good system of meal planning
and planning grocery shopping trips I’ve found my time at the store is minimal, but I still
like to go at time when there are fewer people and I’m not in too much of a time crunch.
This discourages last-minute purchases which go against my plan.

Shop around the edge of the store. These tend to be the fresher, less processed items.
It’ll save you some money and you’ll have better nutritional options in those areas.
Stock up when deep-discount are offered. Watch for manager
markdowns and then buy extra and freeze what you don’t plan
to cook right away. If it is a bulk item, make sure to cut it into
smaller pieces and then individually wrap them, so you don’t
have to defrost a whole package at once.
Consider “cowpooling.” Go in with friends or neighbors on an
entire animal from a local farm and sharing the butchered cuts
of meat. Staying local and buying “in bulk” gives you access to
higher quality at lower prices.
DIY produce. The great thing about fruits and vegetables is that
you can always grow your own. Start small with herbs. Don’t
let space hold you back. Vegetables like lettuce, tomatoes,
summer squash, eggplant and peppers can just as easily be
grown in containers or window boxes.
Use leftovers! Whether you use them to create a new meal or just eat the same thing
twice, this saves so much money! I even write leftovers into our meal plan each week. I
know that we’ll have them to use and I want to make sure we use them. If you hate eating
leftovers, but often have food leftover from your meal, just start making less at each meal.
If you know you have $400 to spend per month on your food budget, that’s roughly $100 a
week. Whether you shop once or twice per week doesn’t matter, as long as you stay within
your spending limits. Just be sure to only spend the amount you allotted per week. Do what
works for you to stay on budget. Explore variations, especially when re-working leftovers,
and have fun.

Your Body On Soda
By Trinh Le, MPH, RD
SO YOU WANT TO STOP DRINKING SODA! You know it’s not great for you, and the reasoning
makes sense: Sodas are a concentrated form of simple sugar that provides empty calories,
which can lead to weight gain and poor health. Naturally, this doesn’t happen in one day,
but regularly drinking sugary beverages can send your blood sugar and mood on a roller-
coaster ride (and it’s not always fun!).
If you’re curious about how soda affects your body, read on to see what happens to your
soda from the time it hits your tongue until, well, you get the picture!

Increasing Emotional Health in Your
Family Through Yoga Therapy
Techniques
By Bobbi Hamilton
Photos from Chi Universe
WE ALL LOVE YOGA FOR ITS THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS, YET YOU MAY NOT KNOW THAT YOGA MAKES
GREAT FAMILY THERAPY. INTEGRATING YOGA AS A QUALITY INTER-RELATIONAL ACTIVITY BUILDS
COMMUNICATION, SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS, FOSTERS THE EXPRESSION OF LOVE, AND STRUCTURES
HEALTHY BONDS AND BOUNDARIES.
Parents, caretakers, and teachers face a myriad of modern complexities in child-
development:
Emotional/behavioral issues. Violence/bullying/sexting. Transitional difficulties in
divorce. Anger. Distant and unreachable. Inability to focus. Lack of energy and exercise.
Nervous system ‘ticks” from overload of electronic devices. Difficulty getting kids to eat
healthy. Inability to reach satiation.
Frustrations can arise seemingly out of nowhere. So what is the hidden message in the
emotional stress, and how do we get to a resolution?
Being that Yoga calms the mind and opens the nervous system, it helps us to access our
truth within, and allows us to articulate the things that cause emotional stress. However,
in order for kids and families to be willing to share what arises without inhibition, we
need to create a safe space to explore psychological and emotional sensitivities, then
when we can speak freely without fear of blame, judgment, or denial. This will assist the
process to better understand the emotions, root causes, and reactions, and help us work
towards transforming the situation and turning reactions into healthy responses.
Here are suggestions on how to address and resolve emotion:
1. Breathe-In through the nose and breath-out through the mouth.
This is the best technique to let go of frustration! One can feel the stress fall off
from them in just one breath, and breath-by-breath. Kids notice an immediate
change in their state of being from just one deep “letting go” exhale. Remind
students and children to take one breath in through the nose and out of the

mouth, followed by 3 breaths in a row. Count the breaths. Talk them through it
and breath with them.
2. Come from an open and compassionate heart when addressing the emotion, and be
ready to listen (really listen!). Be ready to hear the truth. Be ready to accept your
role in the situation. Be ready to be soft.
3. Get on the floor or yoga mat with the child. It makes them feel you are on their
level.
4. You can also weave together Talk Therapy with Movement Therapy/Yoga Therapy.
Older kids often respond well from more insight through vocal feedback.
5. You can begin a yoga session by addressing any emotional issues (but without
judgment or emotional charge), and then lead child/student through the Yoga
Practice or Physical Therapy lesson.
6. The time following Yoga is a great opportunity to open conversations and
transform relationships. It can be useful to have a mediator/teacher allow each
person to express his or her inner emotions and to feel properly heard. When kids
feel supported and protected they are much more willing to share. Trying to
Your True Colours Vol. 2
Issue 2

7. understand the true meaning behind the child/teen/parent aggravation is
sometimes enough to open the door to a more meaningful conversation.
8. Always resolve! Once everyone is heard, set the tone for change. What can each
parent, child, teacher, or caregiver do to personally make the situation better?
Make sure everyone understands the situation, and agrees to work towards being
their best self. To heal is the gift.
Adults often feel the need to exercise and practice Yoga to reduce stress and simply
function in the world. Definitely take the time for self-practice; however make sure to
set aside time for Family Yoga. Above all, address and resolve emotional stigma. If you
practice Yoga with your family, students, and friends, you will find it is easier to
communicate and you will deepen relationships and ultimately make it easier to deal with
the hard stuff. It’s best to build this bond of trust in the early stages. With the door of
communication open, we can become a child’s confidant, ally, protector, and trusted
guide.
I’ll leave you with these
two SUCCESS concepts I
adored:
Success can be
measured in the
number of
difficult
conversations
you’re willing to
have.
Happiness is the
highest level of
success.

“…There is Time for Sitting and Crying,
Then You Have to Get Up and Go!”
JENNIFER WILLIAMS-FIELDS WAS A MILITARY WIFE WITH CHILDREN
AND A HALTED WRITING CAREER WHEN HURRICANE KATRINA
THREATENED NEW ORLEANS. Her husband was on
deployment when the order came to evacuate.
Williams-Fields packed up her children and personal
items and headed for Memphis TN, where she had
friends and a Navy Base for support. The hurricane hit
New Orleans fiercely and the Fields family lost their
home. The YMCA allowed evacuees to use their
facilities for free, a welcome blessing from six children
in a hotel room. Williams-Fields had been a volunteer
yoga instructor at church in New Orleans, and when the
Millington YMCA found out, they offered her a job.
Soon after the family moved into a house. That was in
2005, move to now. Williams-Fields has now escaped
an abusive marriage and is teaching yoga at Millington
School of Dance and Cross-Fit in Atoka TN. She has
begun writing through blogging and an online magazine, and her own book.
As a single mom with six children she is asked frequently, “How do you do it?”
She muses, “Do I sit and cry? There is a time for sitting and crying, then you have to get
up and go!”
She looked to yoga to help her with the get up and go…in yoga one becomes aware of how
your body feels. She realized that she can translate that awareness to a spiritual
connection. Yoga teaches, take a step back; take a breath; evaluate what’s really going
on.
“We have a choice once we have evaluated, anger or gratitude,” Williams-Fields notes.
Anger is based in fear. For her that fear was her alcoholic ex-husband; she lived in fear
of what the situation would be each day. The thoughts of being a single mom with six
children left her in financial fear. She knew she had to make a choice to get her own
Your True Colours Vol. 2
Issue 2
A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 44 Your True Colours
power to live her life back. Still challenged with the financial fear, she was not able to
move forward. She then made her choice, to rid the fear to be able to rid the anger.
For those who are struggling with the life questions, ‘How did I get here?’ ‘This is not the
life I thought I was to lead.’ She wrote a book. For those who doubt there role in their
own life, she wrote a book.
The book has a place for personal notes at the end of each chapter, along with questions
to answer. These two steps are an integral part of making changes in one’s life. A joyful
life does not just fall in our laps. There is work for it; and in some cases there is more to
do to find that joy. She begins with her realization that she is unhappy as she sits in
traffic evacuating New Orleans, to the moment as she sat on the front porch on an
unusually warm January day that she was now content and had peace. Applying yoga
teachings to her struggles created a new life for her, and she put it all in words so that
others can benefit from her own trek from sadness to joy.
The Momma Guilt sections truly touch home for those of us who have tried to walk
through just one day
as a mother without
throwing our hands up
in the air and
bellowing, “I quit!”.
Beginning with
examining the physical
aspect of one’s life,
exercise and eating,
she starts you on that
path to joyful living.
And, when your day
isn’t going the way
you planned you can
fall back on my
favorite quote in the
book, “It doesn’t
matter how slow you
are going. You are
moving faster than if
you stayed in bed.”

Raising Genius
By Brian Avery
PERHAPS THE BEST LEGACY YOU CAN PROVIDE FOR YOUR
CHILDREN IS DIRECTION AND SUPPORT THAT WILL BOOST THEIR
CHANCES FOR SUCCESS. DEFINITIONS OF SUCCESS VARY BUT
ENSURING YOUR CHILDREN EXCEL IN CAREER SKILLS THAT WILL
PLACE THEM IN DEMAND AS THEY REACH ADULTHOOD MIGHT BE
A DEFINITION OF SUCCESS YOU HAVE CONSIDERED. If so,
“Raising Genius”, is a quick read that presents a
methodology that was successful for the author and his
wife. The book places an emphasis on helping your
children shine academically positioning them for lucrative
careers later on.
Imagine having no college tuition expenses for any of your
children and having them master subjects leading to
careers where they have the upper hand. Following the
methods presented in “Raising Genius” the author contends he can tip the balance in your
favor for a similar outcome – all attainable goals for a child possessing “normal”
intelligence. The title was chosen with a grain of irony. The label “Genius” is too often
used to explain someone’s academic and career success. This easy dismissal often masks
a more mundane road to success involving focus, consistency, and direction. In “Raising
Genius” the author introduces methods that proved successful for all three of his children
and may enhance the odds of success for yours – no genius I.Q. needed!
In addition to introducing an approach to bolster academic success, the author discusses
high-potential career paths for the future from his vantage point. Children in the U.S.
are not in the best position to realize the nature of a global economy and how related
competitive forces have placed a premium on specific career options while placing others
in the doldrums. Your involvement is crucial in helping to prepare your child to compete.
The game has changed and traditional paths may lead nowhere – choosing wisely is
imperative.
Ultimately your role as a parent may have the greatest influence on the adult your child
becomes. Providing the right expectations and support for your children and helping
them master basic yet neglected problem-solving skills can help position them for a
tremendous career.

Success has much more to do with preparation and application than luck or association.
Giving your children advantages of preparation in the right area without blunting their
personal interests is the Theme of “Raising Genius”. Choices you make while you are a
parent of young children carrying through their teens will have lasting impact as they
move through adulthood. “Raising Genius” provides an approach that can eliminate the
majority of their college expenses and place them in demand thereafter. Amidst claims
that “thirty is the new twenty” you can turn this worthless concession upside-down and
have your children destroy the fad of lower expectations. The future is theirs!

We live in an age where instant gratification is at its height. Instant gratification
does not encourage the setting of short term, and eventually, long term goals. We
have developed a simple program of goal setting and working towards individual
changes within one’s life experiences and daily encounters. Our subjects cover a
variety of different options within one’s personality, personal choices, or
professional endeavors.
Do not overload yourself. Make yourself accountable. Present yourself in your best
light, and then move forward toward that life definition.
Select two goals a month, one from two different subjects. After you have completed
one goal in each subject; start over again. Sometimes you may be able to choose
more than two goals a month, however, realize that to change a behavior one must
do a goal for at least 21 days.
Do not give up. If you stop for a few days, just pick up where you left off. It if is a
goal that would change behavior, then your 21 days would start over.
Need help? For $35 a month, we will provide support weekly through email and one

SINCE THE 1990S, COLLECTING VINTAGE COSTUME JEWELRY HAS GROWN INTO A WELL-RECOGNIZED
HOBBY. AUTHORS HAVE WRITTEN COUNTLESS BOOKS ON THE HISTORY OF VINTAGE COSTUME JEWELRY,
ITS ORIGINS, AND THE COLLECTABILITY OF THESE WONDERFUL WORKS OF ART. Moreover,
organizations have formed that dedicate their work to the studies of vintage costume and
collectible costume jewelry. It isn't just about the "junk" found in grandma's top drawer
anymore!
In the early years of this hobby, finding vintage costume jewelry was relatively easy and
inexpensive. However, in past twenty- five years, the market has become more
competitive. Today, despite the fact that the most coveted pieces of vintage costume
jewelry can cost hundreds, even thousands of dollars, there are still ways to find great
bargains and grow your collection at a price you can afford.
ESTATE AND GARAGE SALES
Estate and garage or tag sales are at the ground level of the purchasing ladder, and this is
where dealers often go to find those terrific finds and buys. However, standing in line for
a quick peek at the possibility of finding something great isn't always fun. It can mean
early morning travel and long hours of waiting and standing. But if you are up for the
adventure and are willing to wait your turn to view the offerings, estate sales are often
your best resource for finding great jewelry pieces. Garage sales too can be very fruitful

in finding remarkable bargains, but jewelry is less often present at these kinds of
sales. Don't be shy to ask if the sellers have any costume jewelry for sale. There's a good
chance it got left inside, and these buys can be terrific!
THRIFT SHOPS, ANTIQUE MALLS, AND CHURCH BAZAARS.
Long waits and
lines are not the
case for all
purchasing
opportunities,
and this is why
thrift shops and
antique malls
are great
locations to find
isolated deals.
When
purchasing
jewelry at thrift
stores and
antique shops,
the dealer has
done the hard
part of
acquiring a
piece. One can
peruse at one's
leisure without
being elbowed or exhausted from the long waits in line. Pricing is generally low at thrift
stores as the establishments want and need to move product fast to raise needed
funds. Thrift stores inventory changes frequently and many have scheduled mark downs
even after just a week of the piece being on display.
Although some antique malls can be expensive, this isn't necessarily the case. Many
dealers enjoy turning over merchandise quickly and have more than fair bargains
available for purchase. Often dealers will offer an additional discount if you make a
bundle purchase. Also, some dealers underestimate current market values, so great
deals are still widely available.
Church bazaars are another wonderful place to find fantastic jewelry. Keep up with local
town newspapers as these church sales can be listed in the classified section under
fundraisers, but not necessarily advertised in wider- circulated newspapers because of
the cost.
Unsigned goldtone necklace purchased for $4.99. Estimated value $24.00. Hobe bracelet
purchase for $35.00. Estimated value $79.00

CONDITION
For those inexpensive finds to be a great deal, the condition must also be good. Pieces
that are broken or missing stones may go at a fraction of what their worth might be (if
perfect). Be reminded that repairs can get costly and stone replacements in many cases
can be near to impossible. A good habit is to have some trusty high-powered reading
glasses from the Dollar Store to examine the jewelry before it is purchased. Almost
always these types sales are non-refundable, and you could find your precious collecting
dollars going to waste.
Lastly, if
adventuring
outside the
home isn't
possible,
vintage online
shops and
retailers do
offer bargains.
These deals can
be easily found
by adjusting
the search
criteria for
pieces you are
interested in
purchasing by
selecting the
"lowest price"
option. Venues
like Ebay have
a "buy it now"
feature that
makes it as
good as going up to the store counter with no wait or question as to whether you'll get the
piece. Etsy, Ruby Lane, and Poshmark are a few of the other online sites where sellers
offer frequent bargains, and most sites have buyer protection policies in place so you can
shop worry free.
With a couple of months left in summer, it's a wonderful time to use these ideas to
explore and begin collecting costume jewelry on a budget!

Men's collection
Next to the shirts and formal jackets there is a good choice in polo's, tees, waist-
coats, knitwear, trousers, shorts and swim trunks.
Structure
To make life a little easier for both consumer and retailers, A fish named Fred has
prepared 7 different color groups. Coral Red, A touch of White, Jungle Fever, Cool
Khaki, Denim Dreams, Arctic Aqua and Midnight Blues. Each color group fits well
together and has an optimal balance to present as a theme in store or online. This
way it is much more convenient to imagine how a consumer will see the collection
in the shop.
Of course it's possible to mix and match the different groups to new blends. Be
creative and have your own pick of fishy business.

iSHARE Agency Spotlight: Elaine Enis
By Sherri Henley
AT ISHARE AGENCY, MY FOUNDING PARTNER, CHERYL MALIK AND I TAKE GREAT PLEASURE IN
SPOTLIGHTING OUR EXPERTS, AS WE EACH MAINTAIN AUTONOMY WHILE CREATING A WHOLE. BY
BRINGING EXPERTS TOGETHER WE ARE ABLE TO DELIVER TO OUR CLIENTS FAR AND ABOVE WHAT
WE COULD POSSIBLY MANAGE ALONE BECAUSE, “TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER.”
Join me as I interview Elaine Enis
of Unending Love by Exclusively
Elaine.
Q - Sherri: Elaine, you are a
multi-talented entrepreneur
and artist serving as an iSHARE
Expert and iSHARE Client. Tell
us about yourself and your
various business ventures...
A - Elaine: I currently live in
Olive Branch, Mississippi but
grew up in Memphis. My career
has taken me from Marketing
Teacher to Key Account
Representative with a National
Company to Entrepreneur. For
the past 18 years, I have
supervised and audited a
regional chain of stores. In recent years, I allowed my creative side to emerge for myself
and not just for use in business. In 2010, I created a Christian design I call "Unending
Love". I also paint in acrylic and write poetry. I recently started working on a couple of
country music songs and am in the process of getting the words put into music.
Q - Sherri: iSHARE Agency works with you on brand development and project
management. Tell us how it feels to be "branded" with an online identity and how
that works for you...
A - Elaine: I like being branded with a Christian design that was designed to express God's
unending love. I am aware of anything that I post on social media needs to reflect my

personal mission statement of living a life guided
by God and the sharing of His unending love with
others. When one is conscious of being "branded"
one makes sure their online presence across all
social media platforms is harmoniously
integrated.
Q - Sherri: We began our relationship due to a
mutual friend and iSHARE Expert, Shelley
Baur, which started our journey of business
brainstorming and social media intelligence
through Sherri Henley Intelligence (SHI)
initially...later converting to iSHARE Agency.
Tell us about your experience during the
transition phase from SHI to iSHARE...
A - Elaine: It was flawless as SHI transformed into
iSHARE. The added benefit was the addition of a
team of experts in their field.
Q - Sherri: Exclusively Elaine is your "brand" with your line #unendinglove as your
focus in artistry. Share your story of how you designed this piece...
A - Elaine: One day in 2010, I was trying to think of something I could paint to take to a
friend that had invited my husband and I to dinner. Being a card-carrying "Southern
Belle", I have to take a gift when going to dinner at someone's home. As I sat there
thinking the good Lord sent me inspiration in the form of a cross and heart. I sketched the
design that have formed and then did a small painting. My friend loved the painting. She
asked me to paint a few more that she could give away. I started working on a name for
the design and one Sunday my pastor used the phrase "unending love" I immediately
claimed this as the name of my design.
Q - Sherri: What type of items is available through the #unendinglove line?
A - Elaine: T-shirts, hates, sweatshirts, embroidered prayer pillow and framed design,
Sterling Silver jewelry and other jewelry with the design engraved, coffee mug and car
decals.
Q - Sherri: We are very impressed with your attention to detail and quality. Explain
why you believe quality is better than quantity...

iSHARE Spotlight (Continued)
A - Elaine: I have a saying, "if you are going to do something, do it right and do it right
the first time." Doing quality work is what brings about referrals and happy customers
that will buy again.
Q - Sherri: How did you take an idea and turn it into artistry with a production team?
A - Elaine: One thing led to
another thing. People suggested
I make the design into jewelry
and the company that does my
embroidery made suggestions for
some items on my website; I also
saw items when shopping that
inspired me also.
Q - Sherri: What is your market
and why?
A - Elaine: As my design is a
Christian design, my market is
the Christian consumer.
Q - Sherri: The #unendinglove
design has a cross in the
middle of a heart based on
your Christian beliefs. In a
world of political correctness and fear of some to mention faith...why are you
adamant about sharing your Christian values through your work?
A - Elaine: If we deny Him, He will deny us. I plan on rejoicing in His Heavenly kingdom
one day. I would rather offend man than offend God. I would never hold my faith over
anyone and am tolerant of other people having their beliefs yet at the same time I am not
ashamed to hold on to my Christian beliefs and values. I am have had so many "God
moments" in my live and am proud to be His child.
Q - Sherri: Tell us why you named your company "Exclusively Elaine"...
A - Elaine: I am original, one of a kind, so exclusively was a good word choice and I added
my name after the word. It just seemed to fit.
Your True Colours Vol. 2
Issue 2
A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 96 Your True Colours
Q - Sherri: iSHARE also worked with you on additional ventures...would you like to
share the pork-skin story?
A - Elaine: Let's just say it is under development and not ready to come to light. Stay
tuned.
Q - Sherri: As a successful business-woman in another field (financial) unrelated to
artistry...how do you balance work/life experience?
A - Elaine: I am a high energy person that has to pull in the reins at times. I always start
my day alone with God. That sets the tone for the rest of the day. I have to make myself
stop "work" many times. I am constantly asking myself if my life is in or out of balance. If
it is out of balance I make adjustments as necessary. I have all kinds of exercise
equipment at my house and make a daily workout as part of my day. I try to end the day
reading a good book.
Q - Sherri: What is your primary focus as a professional?
A - Elaine: To do the most with what I have to work with and to make the most of each
day.
Q - Sherri: What can we
expect in the future for
Exclusively Elaine in terms
of product and the evolution
of your business model?
A - Elaine: Always open to
new ideas. I have more
Sterling Silver jewelry items
to introduce as they are
finished by the manufacturer.
Q - Sherri: Where do you see
yourself professionally in 5
years?
A - Elaine: Working hard on
something fun and exciting. I
will be 66 and have no plans
for retirement.

iSHARE Spotlight (Continued)
Q - Sherri: As a multi-faceted artist,
professional, and
entrepreneur...what is the greatest
piece of advice you offer to others?
A - Elaine: Do what you enjoy doing
and brings you happiness. Too much
of society focuses on the big job, the
big house, the fancy car, but is that
really the key to happiness? Too
many people let their desires
overtake them. Know who is leading, your own heart or the pull of society.
Q - Sherri: Tell us how to make lemonade...
A - Elaine: Add a little sweetness to your life. Take the focus off yourself and be a help to
others around you. There is always someone that needs a kind word or a kind deed. “In
all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path". Proverbs 3:6

A MEMOIR BY MARIE PIZANO
According to Marie Pizano, the word “no”
is not in her vocabulary. She simply
says, “I Can” and “I Will”. Her
memoir, From Barefoot to Stilettos tells
the story of her life thus far, from her
childhood days of living on food stamps,
gangs and double-dutching on the streets
of south-side Chicago to surviving a life
changing accident, moving to Memphis
and living a trophy-wife life, dealing with
the mean girls, the monster-in-law, panic
attacks, becoming a mother, to her post-
divorce years and defeating the odds of
building an entertainment powerhouse, all
while rediscovering herself, her life, and
her power. Through explorations of her
own past and present tense, Marie
reflects on how the sum of her trials and
triumphs shaped her into the empowered
woman she became during her incessant
quest to find her “yes.” ...

Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 3 Your True Colours Some of our guest writers for this issue: Brian Avery and his wife, Marina, have three children with stunning academic credentials, each tracking toward rewarding careers. After entertaining questions about how their children performed so well, and listening to dismissals that not everyone can be a genius, the author is sharing the approach he and his wife took. He is an environmental manager for a steel company in Alabama. Both he and his wife have a formal education in engineering. http://www.amazon.com/Raising-Genius- Brian-Avery/dp/1631358871 . Wen Chi Chien, founder of Zen Institute, came to America from Taiwan in 1990 to pursue a master's degree in counseling. Within one year, her father died and her husband abandoned her. Three years earlier, her mother had died of a stroke. With no children, and no support from family and friends, she was at a point where there was nothing for her to look forward to. Suicidal and ready to end her life, a part of her was desperate for the tools so she could learn how to live with herself. After meeting with several therapists it took one night in the backyard gazing at the stars to realize that she loved this life and this world. She eventually opened the Zen Institute. Zen Institute offers a ground-breaking treatment model that consists of four treatment modalities: CBT, DBT, EMDR and Inner Twin therapy. It is different than the traditional kind of psychotherapy, yet it is very powerful. As one goes through the process, one will know that you are the one in charge of your life, and will no longer live in fear nor loneliness. You will be able to feel unshakable inner peace and total self- confidence! http://www.myzeninstitute.com/

  • 12. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 11 Your True Colours Great Finds:OZ Naturals Over the several months I have been reviewing several products within the OZ Natural line. This is not a line that is found in the local stores, it is an internet line. I have to let you know about it because they are an amazing line, and they are affordable. http://www.oznaturals.com/ . Super Youth Eye Gel is wonderful! It takes very, very little! A very little, I stress that! It is soft and natural and leaves the skin around your eyes feeling so nice and soft. I have sensitive eyes, and I have used eye gel that has left my eyes burning. This leaves no irritation in my eyes. I really love this eye gel! Vitamin C Serum Contains 20% Vitamin C + Amino Complex + Hyaluronic Acid Serum. All of ths is supposed to mean something, I did do some research and I found out that Hyaluronic Acid is a great healing force. What I like about it is that it is not greasy, it literally feels like you put water on your face. I have oily skin, and using this serum, I don’t have a very oily face at the end of the day. I really like it!
  • 13. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 12 Your True Colours Ocean Mineral Tonic is wonderful, toner as it is normally referred to. It is in a spray bottle, and you simply spray your face. I do rub it in a little bit. I like the freshness. It has all the cool stuff, vitamin C, glycolic acid and witch hazel. And, again, affordable. Ancient Orient Rice Enzyme Dermafoliant, first of all, I lovce the name! But most of all, I love this facial scrub. It is so soft, yet cleanses so well. I like it for in-between using a mask. (Okay, I admit, sometimes I forget to use a mask because this facial scrub does such a good job!) Olive and Jojoba Oil Body Souffle, isn’t that an awesome name! Body Souffle…love it! This was one of the lotions that I wanted to keep for myself completely…and then my daughter had spa pamper night with her friends. I heard a plea, “We need lotion! We forgot lotion!” Unfortunately the lotion that was handy was this. And, I haven’t seen it since!! Not sure if those young ladies used it all up or if my daughter has confiscated it! It is amazing! It actually absorbs, no left over slick stuff.

  • 16. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 15 Your True Colours Life Image –Shopping on a Budget By Carolyn Bendall Saving money while shopping requires mind over matter…or knowledge over impulse. Stores are set up for the moment. We are trained to shop for the moment. Every year the USMC celebrates their birthday with a ball, a formal ball. In October the Exchange on the base brings out formals for the women to purchase for the ball. Now, knowing that this never deviates on the date, shopping throughout the year for a formal for this ball makes more sense that paying full price in October, or the first week of Novemeber. We have that type of situation within our lives continually, however, we still shop for the occasion. First, evaluate what is in your wardrobe right now. Go through it at the end of a season and pull out those items that you did not waer the entire season. If you didn’t even pull it out for consideration, then this is a piece of your wardrobe that you do not need. What is the reason, is it the right color for you skin tone? Is it the right style for you body type? Is it even your personality? Knowing each of those three traits of yourself will help with shopping. First, your color palette. We do color analysis via the internet now and it is just a few mintues to find out what your best colors are. This does make a difference, if it is an item that you just never make it out of the house while wearing, this is a big indication that you don’t really like the way you look in it. Then, your body type, this is a little more intense, but again, we can now do that consultation via the internet, too. Are you a tapered hip or a high hip? Should you wear pleated pants or flat front pants? Lastly, your personality. What do you like, a simple sweater set with minimal jewelry? Or are you more comfortable in a wild top with large jewelry? There are four different personalities that should be matched with clothing so that you know you are not buying something just because your friend likes it. Cleaning out is the hardest, because we actually paid real money for those items hanging in our closets! But, let’s think about this. Just how much money is sitting in your closet doing nothing for you? Do you have five items your paid $25 a piece for? That is $125 sitting in your closet doing nothing. Reality? Do you have five items in your closet that cost $100 that you are not wearing, ever? That is Disneyworld in Orlando FL, USA, hanging in your closet doing nothing. Yes, knowledge and shopping go together.
  • 17. This guide will help you to clean out your wardrobe and to plan a better shopping plan. The first group is how to evaluate your wardrobe. http://www.fashionacademy.biz WEARABLES REPAIRABLES DISCARDS These are the clothes that you can take out of the closet and wear just as they are, perhaps they need ironed, but other than that they are immediately wearable. These are the clothes that are missing a button, the hem has fallen out, a seam is open, or maybe they need to be altered. They should not be in your closet. This leads to you stating as you look at a closet full of clothes, “I have nothing to wear!” There are really two forms of discards. Those that are just worn out or that you don’t like anymore, they need to go. The other are the ones that are not the right size, whether they are too small or too big. They should be placed in a box away from the closet, marked what size they actually are. You may bring them back to the closet when you fit into them again. If you do not pull out that box in a year, it gets taken to Goodwill. For this activity, you will do it twice a year for 3 weeks. This is to evaluate how well your wardrobe is working for you, and where you need to make changes. You will do this about every 3 to 5 years. WHAT I WORE WHERE I WENT WHAT I WISH I HAD WORN In this column you will write down what you wore In this column you will write down where you went. This may change during the day, depending on where your day takes you. Walking the dog, cleaning the house, going to work, going to the movies, etc. In this column you write down what you wish you had worn instead of what you did wear. If each time you wore your blue shoes, you wished you had other blue shoes..why? Do they hurt? Are they not dark enough? This is the column where you will evaluate your wardrobe and find the problems. Sometimes you will, ‘exactly what I wore!’, then you know that item is perfect for you.

  • 19. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 18 Your True Colours The Secret of Happiness By Wen Chi Chien, M.A. LPC AFTER SUFFERING FROM SEVERE ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, TRAUMAS AND ADDICTION FOR 30 YEARS OF MY LIFE, JUST A FEW YEARS AGO I FIGURED OUT THE SECRET OF HAPPINESS! I’ve read thousands of books, and I’ve done 17 years of professional work as a psychotherapist. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for… to share the secret of happiness with you! Are you ready to hear about it? Everything in this world falls into two categories: Things under my control and things not under my control. Do you agree? There are five things that out of our control! What are they? Other people’s thoughts, other people’s feelings, other people’s behaviors, the past, and the future. Such as someone put you down, someone is upset with you, someone did something that hurt you, and you unconsciously get stuck in the things that happened in the past or the things you imagine that might happen in the future… Now, look back in the last 12 months, how much time and energy have you spent trying to control those 5 things that are absolutely out of your control? Now, take a look how much time do you have left to control the things that are absolutely under your control? I bet not much! The truth is that you have power to choose! You can choose to focus on things under your control or not under your control. No one can point a gun at you and say that you have to focus on the things that are absolutely out of your control. Even a prisoner gets to choose to focus on the things that are under his/her control and live a happy life! So the question is why are we trying to control the things that are absolutely out of our control? It might be because we do it out of unconscious habit. The consequence is that we are going to be frustrated, angry and feeling completely powerless all the time!
  • 20. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 19 Your True Colours The Secret of Happiness (Continued) Make a commitment today: Don’t waste your time and energy focusing on the things that are out of your control! You might ask, “What do I do when I recognize the things that bothers me that is one of those 5 things? My answer is “Let go”. How do we let go? Here are two pieces of advice for you... 1. Live your life like water: Why water? Water is the strongest and softest substance in the world, you can never use a knife and cut the liquid form of water in half, you will hardly see water going upstream by itself, yet water always finds its way out! Water will never have a head on collision with someone. Water is humble, gentle and wise. Let’s me ask you, what are you made of? Yes! Water! 73% of the body weight of an infant is water. Live your life like water, accept the reality and love what is, it’s a guarantee that you will live a life that is happy and peaceful. 2. Be present: The definition of Zen is that “There is no reality outside of here and now.” When you spend current moment and get stuck in the past or the future, your life is slipping right in front of you. I remember in 1988, when I saw my mom lying on the hospital bed and being paralyzed from a stroke, I realized that there was not much difference between my
  • 21. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 20 Your True Colours mom and me. Physically she was paralyzed from head to toe and all she could do was blink her eyes. Emotionally and spiritually I was paralyzed, because I couldn’t help keep going to the past and future, and the consequence of that was feeling completely helpless and powerless. This eye-opening experience inspired me to create this tool to help you be present. I call it “3 boxes”. Imagine there are three boxes in front of you, on the left the box represents the past; on the right the box represents the future, and the box in the middle represents here and now. If you want to experience shame and guilt, which box do you focus on? The past! If you want to experience fear, which box do you focus on? The future! If you want to experience love, peace and joy, which box do you focus on? Yes, the answer is Here and Now! Just that simple! In reality, the past is done, you can’t go back to fix it no matter how remorseful you are. The future is not here, but you can scare yourself to death by thinking about the worst scenario and all kinds of what ifs. You will end up being paralyzed by this kind of neurotic fear. This neurotic FEAR stands for “False Evidence Appearing Real”! If you use this moment and focus on your past and/or your future, you are creating a life that is absolutely delusional because, “there is no reality outside of here and now.” So, why would you create a life that is delusional? Why would you choose to spend time being paralyzed? Do you have power to choose to be present?” Yes! Absolutely yes! The untrained mind will constantly take you to the past and the future. That is why it is very difficult for you to stay present. Here is a simple exercise you can do to stay present: Identify everything in your surroundings in a very quick fashion. You will notice that your anxiety goes down, simply because in the moment no one is attacking you, your house is not on fire, you are OK exactly where you are! Over the years, I have searched for the secret of happiness and I have discovered: the secret of happiness is actually linked to living a meaningful life. With everything I have learned in my life, my conclusion for the meaning of life is: All of us are here on the earth to learn the following three things: love, forgive and create. We are here to learn how to
  • 22. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 21 Your True Colours The Secret of Happiness (Continued) love ourselves and others, forgive ourselves and others, and take full responsibility to create a life just the way we want it! Now, we have chosen not to waste our time focusing on the things that are out of our control, we get to focus on the things absolutely under our control. What are the things that will bring us happiness? Love, forgive and create the life just the way we want it! In closing, I would like to share with you my favorite quote: “Love is that I am everything, wisdom is that I am nothing, between the two, my life moves…” http://www.myzeninstitute.com/ “Love is that I am everything, wisdom is that I am nothing, between the two, my life moves…”

  • 26. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 25 Your True Colours Wellness: Shopping on a Budget By Kally Efros EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN FEELINGS ABOUT GROCERY SHOPPING. WE ALL DO IT. SOME LIKE IT. SOME DREAD IT. REGARDLESS, WE ALL CAN LEARN TO SHOP ON A BUDGET. Shopping on a budget can lead to weight loss and a healthier diet. How? Because you will learn to shop, cook, and eat better. Sure, there are convenient foods available throughout the grocery store, but you are paying for the packaging, the processing, and with that extra cost, you receive all kinds of ingredients that you don’t need or want. Here are some of my tips for a healthier and more enjoyable grocery shopping experience. Have a budget in mind and don’t vary from it. The exercise of planning a realistic budget for the family’s groceries can be shared with your significant other. Once you’ve got your budget, work through a plan using the weekly ads. Base the week’s meals around sale items, always keeping fresh fruits and vegetables at the center of your plan. There are software apps now available to help you calculate your menu cost. Even if you don’t have a tight budget, having a price in mind will help you stick to whatever your monthly goal is. Start your shopping list during the week by writing down items you need. By starting your list during the week and keeping a runny tally of things you need, you won’t forget them on shopping day. Write a grocery list of exactly what you need. Using your plan, think of breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and household items. Also, remember staple items that you normally keep on hand so that you don’t have to run out later in the week when you need something. Taking a general inventory of what you have on hand is very helpful. Hold yourself accountable. As I purchase items, I cross it off my list. I use the Todoist app. This helps me focus on only what I need. Holding myself accountable keeps me from overspending and finding a surprise at the end of my shopping trip. General rules for going to the grocery store. Don’t go to the grocery store hungry. Don’t bring kids or a spouse that will detour you from your list. If it’s not on the list, don’t buy it. Don’t go when you are feeling really rushed. By using a good system of meal planning and planning grocery shopping trips I’ve found my time at the store is minimal, but I still like to go at time when there are fewer people and I’m not in too much of a time crunch. This discourages last-minute purchases which go against my plan.
  • 27. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 26 Your True Colours Shop around the edge of the store. These tend to be the fresher, less processed items. It’ll save you some money and you’ll have better nutritional options in those areas. Stock up when deep-discount are offered. Watch for manager markdowns and then buy extra and freeze what you don’t plan to cook right away. If it is a bulk item, make sure to cut it into smaller pieces and then individually wrap them, so you don’t have to defrost a whole package at once. Consider “cowpooling.” Go in with friends or neighbors on an entire animal from a local farm and sharing the butchered cuts of meat. Staying local and buying “in bulk” gives you access to higher quality at lower prices. DIY produce. The great thing about fruits and vegetables is that you can always grow your own. Start small with herbs. Don’t let space hold you back. Vegetables like lettuce, tomatoes, summer squash, eggplant and peppers can just as easily be grown in containers or window boxes. Use leftovers! Whether you use them to create a new meal or just eat the same thing twice, this saves so much money! I even write leftovers into our meal plan each week. I know that we’ll have them to use and I want to make sure we use them. If you hate eating leftovers, but often have food leftover from your meal, just start making less at each meal. If you know you have $400 to spend per month on your food budget, that’s roughly $100 a week. Whether you shop once or twice per week doesn’t matter, as long as you stay within your spending limits. Just be sure to only spend the amount you allotted per week. Do what works for you to stay on budget. Explore variations, especially when re-working leftovers, and have fun. • 39. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 38 Your True Colours Increasing Emotional Health in Your Family Through Yoga Therapy Techniques By Bobbi Hamilton Photos from Chi Universe WE ALL LOVE YOGA FOR ITS THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS, YET YOU MAY NOT KNOW THAT YOGA MAKES GREAT FAMILY THERAPY. INTEGRATING YOGA AS A QUALITY INTER-RELATIONAL ACTIVITY BUILDS COMMUNICATION, SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS, FOSTERS THE EXPRESSION OF LOVE, AND STRUCTURES HEALTHY BONDS AND BOUNDARIES. Parents, caretakers, and teachers face a myriad of modern complexities in child- development: Emotional/behavioral issues. Violence/bullying/sexting. Transitional difficulties in divorce. Anger. Distant and unreachable. Inability to focus. Lack of energy and exercise. Nervous system ‘ticks” from overload of electronic devices. Difficulty getting kids to eat healthy. Inability to reach satiation. Frustrations can arise seemingly out of nowhere. So what is the hidden message in the emotional stress, and how do we get to a resolution? Being that Yoga calms the mind and opens the nervous system, it helps us to access our truth within, and allows us to articulate the things that cause emotional stress. However, in order for kids and families to be willing to share what arises without inhibition, we need to create a safe space to explore psychological and emotional sensitivities, then when we can speak freely without fear of blame, judgment, or denial. This will assist the process to better understand the emotions, root causes, and reactions, and help us work towards transforming the situation and turning reactions into healthy responses. Here are suggestions on how to address and resolve emotion: 1. Breathe-In through the nose and breath-out through the mouth. This is the best technique to let go of frustration! One can feel the stress fall off from them in just one breath, and breath-by-breath. Kids notice an immediate change in their state of being from just one deep “letting go” exhale. Remind students and children to take one breath in through the nose and out of the
  • 40. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 39 Your True Colours Yoga Therapy Techniques (Continued) mouth, followed by 3 breaths in a row. Count the breaths. Talk them through it and breath with them. 2. Come from an open and compassionate heart when addressing the emotion, and be ready to listen (really listen!). Be ready to hear the truth. Be ready to accept your role in the situation. Be ready to be soft. 3. Get on the floor or yoga mat with the child. It makes them feel you are on their level. 4. You can also weave together Talk Therapy with Movement Therapy/Yoga Therapy. Older kids often respond well from more insight through vocal feedback. 5. You can begin a yoga session by addressing any emotional issues (but without judgment or emotional charge), and then lead child/student through the Yoga Practice or Physical Therapy lesson. 6. The time following Yoga is a great opportunity to open conversations and transform relationships. It can be useful to have a mediator/teacher allow each person to express his or her inner emotions and to feel properly heard. When kids feel supported and protected they are much more willing to share. Trying to
  • 41. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 40 Your True Colours 7. understand the true meaning behind the child/teen/parent aggravation is sometimes enough to open the door to a more meaningful conversation. 8. Always resolve! Once everyone is heard, set the tone for change. What can each parent, child, teacher, or caregiver do to personally make the situation better? Make sure everyone understands the situation, and agrees to work towards being their best self. To heal is the gift. Adults often feel the need to exercise and practice Yoga to reduce stress and simply function in the world. Definitely take the time for self-practice; however make sure to set aside time for Family Yoga. Above all, address and resolve emotional stigma. If you practice Yoga with your family, students, and friends, you will find it is easier to communicate and you will deepen relationships and ultimately make it easier to deal with the hard stuff. It’s best to build this bond of trust in the early stages. With the door of communication open, we can become a child’s confidant, ally, protector, and trusted guide. I’ll leave you with these two SUCCESS concepts I adored: Success can be measured in the number of difficult conversations you’re willing to have. Happiness is the highest level of success.

  • 44. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 43 Your True Colours “…There is Time for Sitting and Crying, Then You Have to Get Up and Go!” JENNIFER WILLIAMS-FIELDS WAS A MILITARY WIFE WITH CHILDREN AND A HALTED WRITING CAREER WHEN HURRICANE KATRINA THREATENED NEW ORLEANS. Her husband was on deployment when the order came to evacuate. Williams-Fields packed up her children and personal items and headed for Memphis TN, where she had friends and a Navy Base for support. The hurricane hit New Orleans fiercely and the Fields family lost their home. The YMCA allowed evacuees to use their facilities for free, a welcome blessing from six children in a hotel room. Williams-Fields had been a volunteer yoga instructor at church in New Orleans, and when the Millington YMCA found out, they offered her a job. Soon after the family moved into a house. That was in 2005, move to now. Williams-Fields has now escaped an abusive marriage and is teaching yoga at Millington School of Dance and Cross-Fit in Atoka TN. She has begun writing through blogging and an online magazine, and her own book. As a single mom with six children she is asked frequently, “How do you do it?” She muses, “Do I sit and cry? There is a time for sitting and crying, then you have to get up and go!” She looked to yoga to help her with the get up and go…in yoga one becomes aware of how your body feels. She realized that she can translate that awareness to a spiritual connection. Yoga teaches, take a step back; take a breath; evaluate what’s really going on. “We have a choice once we have evaluated, anger or gratitude,” Williams-Fields notes. Anger is based in fear. For her that fear was her alcoholic ex-husband; she lived in fear of what the situation would be each day. The thoughts of being a single mom with six children left her in financial fear. She knew she had to make a choice to get her own
  • 45. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 44 Your True Colours power to live her life back. Still challenged with the financial fear, she was not able to move forward. She then made her choice, to rid the fear to be able to rid the anger. For those who are struggling with the life questions, ‘How did I get here?’ ‘This is not the life I thought I was to lead.’ She wrote a book. For those who doubt there role in their own life, she wrote a book. The book has a place for personal notes at the end of each chapter, along with questions to answer. These two steps are an integral part of making changes in one’s life. A joyful life does not just fall in our laps. There is work for it; and in some cases there is more to do to find that joy. She begins with her realization that she is unhappy as she sits in traffic evacuating New Orleans, to the moment as she sat on the front porch on an unusually warm January day that she was now content and had peace. Applying yoga teachings to her struggles created a new life for her, and she put it all in words so that others can benefit from her own trek from sadness to joy. The Momma Guilt sections truly touch home for those of us who have tried to walk through just one day as a mother without throwing our hands up in the air and bellowing, “I quit!”. Beginning with examining the physical aspect of one’s life, exercise and eating, she starts you on that path to joyful living. And, when your day isn’t going the way you planned you can fall back on my favorite quote in the book, “It doesn’t matter how slow you are going. You are moving faster than if you stayed in bed.” http://jenniferyogalifeway.blogspot.com/
  • 46. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 45 Your True Colours Raising Genius By Brian Avery PERHAPS THE BEST LEGACY YOU CAN PROVIDE FOR YOUR CHILDREN IS DIRECTION AND SUPPORT THAT WILL BOOST THEIR CHANCES FOR SUCCESS. DEFINITIONS OF SUCCESS VARY BUT ENSURING YOUR CHILDREN EXCEL IN CAREER SKILLS THAT WILL PLACE THEM IN DEMAND AS THEY REACH ADULTHOOD MIGHT BE A DEFINITION OF SUCCESS YOU HAVE CONSIDERED. If so, “Raising Genius”, is a quick read that presents a methodology that was successful for the author and his wife. The book places an emphasis on helping your children shine academically positioning them for lucrative careers later on. Imagine having no college tuition expenses for any of your children and having them master subjects leading to careers where they have the upper hand. Following the methods presented in “Raising Genius” the author contends he can tip the balance in your favor for a similar outcome – all attainable goals for a child possessing “normal” intelligence. The title was chosen with a grain of irony. The label “Genius” is too often used to explain someone’s academic and career success. This easy dismissal often masks a more mundane road to success involving focus, consistency, and direction. In “Raising Genius” the author introduces methods that proved successful for all three of his children and may enhance the odds of success for yours – no genius I.Q. needed! In addition to introducing an approach to bolster academic success, the author discusses high-potential career paths for the future from his vantage point. Children in the U.S. are not in the best position to realize the nature of a global economy and how related competitive forces have placed a premium on specific career options while placing others in the doldrums. Your involvement is crucial in helping to prepare your child to compete. The game has changed and traditional paths may lead nowhere – choosing wisely is imperative. Ultimately your role as a parent may have the greatest influence on the adult your child becomes. Providing the right expectations and support for your children and helping them master basic yet neglected problem-solving skills can help position them for a tremendous career.
  • 47. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 46 Your True Colours Success has much more to do with preparation and application than luck or association. Giving your children advantages of preparation in the right area without blunting their personal interests is the Theme of “Raising Genius”. Choices you make while you are a parent of young children carrying through their teens will have lasting impact as they move through adulthood. “Raising Genius” provides an approach that can eliminate the majority of their college expenses and place them in demand thereafter. Amidst claims that “thirty is the new twenty” you can turn this worthless concession upside-down and have your children destroy the fad of lower expectations. The future is theirs! http://www.instantbarter.com

Instant gratification does not encourage the setting of short term, and eventually, long term goals. We have developed a simple program of goal setting and working towards individual changes within one’s life experiences and daily encounters. Our subjects cover a variety of different options within one’s personality, personal choices, or professional endeavors. Do not overload yourself. Make yourself accountable. Present yourself in your best light, and then move forward toward that life definition. Select two goals a month, one from two different subjects. After you have completed one goal in each subject; start over again. Sometimes you may be able to choose more than two goals a month, however, realize that to change a behavior one must do a goal for at least 21 days. Do not give up. If you stop for a few days, just pick up where you left off. It if is a goal that would change behavior, then your 21 days would start over. Need help? • 73. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 72 Your True Colours SINCE THE 1990S, COLLECTING VINTAGE COSTUME JEWELRY HAS GROWN INTO A WELL-RECOGNIZED HOBBY. AUTHORS HAVE WRITTEN COUNTLESS BOOKS ON THE HISTORY OF VINTAGE COSTUME JEWELRY, ITS ORIGINS, AND THE COLLECTABILITY OF THESE WONDERFUL WORKS OF ART. Moreover, organizations have formed that dedicate their work to the studies of vintage costume and collectible costume jewelry. It isn't just about the "junk" found in grandma's top drawer anymore! In the early years of this hobby, finding vintage costume jewelry was relatively easy and inexpensive. However, in past twenty- five years, the market has become more competitive. Today, despite the fact that the most coveted pieces of vintage costume jewelry can cost hundreds, even thousands of dollars, there are still ways to find great bargains and grow your collection at a price you can afford. ESTATE AND GARAGE SALES Estate and garage or tag sales are at the ground level of the purchasing ladder, and this is where dealers often go to find those terrific finds and buys. However, standing in line for a quick peek at the possibility of finding something great isn't always fun. It can mean early morning travel and long hours of waiting and standing. But if you are up for the adventure and are willing to wait your turn to view the offerings, estate sales are often your best resource for finding great jewelry pieces. Garage sales too can be very fruitful Italian "Wedding Cake" bead necklace purchased for $7.50. Estimated value is $70.00.
  • 74. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 73 Your True Colours Costume Jewelry on a Budget (Continued) in finding remarkable bargains, but jewelry is less often present at these kinds of sales. Don't be shy to ask if the sellers have any costume jewelry for sale. There's a good chance it got left inside, and these buys can be terrific! THRIFT SHOPS, ANTIQUE MALLS, AND CHURCH BAZAARS. Long waits and lines are not the case for all purchasing opportunities, and this is why thrift shops and antique malls are great locations to find isolated deals. When purchasing jewelry at thrift stores and antique shops, the dealer has done the hard part of acquiring a piece. One can peruse at one's leisure without being elbowed or exhausted from the long waits in line. Pricing is generally low at thrift stores as the establishments want and need to move product fast to raise needed funds. Thrift stores inventory changes frequently and many have scheduled mark downs even after just a week of the piece being on display. Although some antique malls can be expensive, this isn't necessarily the case. Many dealers enjoy turning over merchandise quickly and have more than fair bargains available for purchase. Often dealers will offer an additional discount if you make a bundle purchase. Also, some dealers underestimate current market values, so great deals are still widely available. Church bazaars are another wonderful place to find fantastic jewelry. Keep up with local town newspapers as these church sales can be listed in the classified section under fundraisers, but not necessarily advertised in wider- circulated newspapers because of the cost. Unsigned goldtone necklace purchased for $4.99. Estimated value $24.00. Hobe bracelet purchase for $35.00. Estimated value $79.00
  • 75. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 74 Your True Colours CONDITION For those inexpensive finds to be a great deal, the condition must also be good. Pieces that are broken or missing stones may go at a fraction of what their worth might be (if perfect). Be reminded that repairs can get costly and stone replacements in many cases can be near to impossible. A good habit is to have some trusty high-powered reading glasses from the Dollar Store to examine the jewelry before it is purchased. Almost always these types sales are non-refundable, and you could find your precious collecting dollars going to waste. Lastly, if adventuring outside the home isn't possible, vintage online shops and retailers do offer bargains. These deals can be easily found by adjusting the search criteria for pieces you are interested in purchasing by selecting the "lowest price" option. Venues like Ebay have a "buy it now" feature that makes it as good as going up to the store counter with no wait or question as to whether you'll get the piece. Etsy, Ruby Lane, and Poshmark are a few of the other online sites where sellers offer frequent bargains, and most sites have buyer protection policies in place so you can shop worry free. With a couple of months left in summer, it's a wonderful time to use these ideas to explore and begin collecting costume jewelry on a budget! BY BRINGING EXPERTS TOGETHER WE ARE ABLE TO DELIVER TO OUR CLIENTS FAR AND ABOVE WHAT WE COULD POSSIBLY MANAGE ALONE BECAUSE, “TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER.” Join me as I interview Elaine Enis of Unending Love by Exclusively Elaine. Q - Sherri: Elaine, you are a multi-talented entrepreneur and artist serving as an iSHARE Expert and iSHARE Client. Tell us about yourself and your various business ventures... A - Elaine: I currently live in Olive Branch, Mississippi but grew up in Memphis. My career has taken me from Marketing Teacher to Key Account Representative with a National Company to Entrepreneur. For the past 18 years, I have supervised and audited a regional chain of stores. In recent years, I allowed my creative side to emerge for myself and not just for use in business. In 2010, I created a Christian design I call "Unending Love". I also paint in acrylic and write poetry. I recently started working on a couple of country music songs and am in the process of getting the words put into music. Q - Sherri: iSHARE Agency works with you on brand development and project management. Tell us how it feels to be "branded" with an online identity and how that works for you... A - Elaine: I like being branded with a Christian design that was designed to express God's unending love. I am aware of anything that I post on social media needs to reflect my
  • 95. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 94 Your True Colours personal mission statement of living a life guided by God and the sharing of His unending love with others. When one is conscious of being "branded" one makes sure their online presence across all social media platforms is harmoniously integrated. Q - Sherri: We began our relationship due to a mutual friend and iSHARE Expert, Shelley Baur, which started our journey of business brainstorming and social media intelligence through Sherri Henley Intelligence (SHI) initially...later converting to iSHARE Agency. Tell us about your experience during the transition phase from SHI to iSHARE... A - Elaine: It was flawless as SHI transformed into iSHARE. The added benefit was the addition of a team of experts in their field. Q - Sherri: Exclusively Elaine is your "brand" with your line #unendinglove as your focus in artistry. Share your story of how you designed this piece... A - Elaine: One day in 2010, I was trying to think of something I could paint to take to a friend that had invited my husband and I to dinner. Being a card-carrying "Southern Belle", I have to take a gift when going to dinner at someone's home. As I sat there thinking the good Lord sent me inspiration in the form of a cross and heart. I sketched the design that have formed and then did a small painting. My friend loved the painting. She asked me to paint a few more that she could give away. I started working on a name for the design and one Sunday my pastor used the phrase "unending love" I immediately claimed this as the name of my design. Q - Sherri: What type of items is available through the #unendinglove line? A - Elaine: T-shirts, hates, sweatshirts, embroidered prayer pillow and framed design, Sterling Silver jewelry and other jewelry with the design engraved, coffee mug and car decals. Q - Sherri: We are very impressed with your attention to detail and quality. Explain why you believe quality is better than quantity...
  • 96. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 95 Your True Colours iSHARE Spotlight (Continued) A - Elaine: I have a saying, "if you are going to do something, do it right and do it right the first time." Doing quality work is what brings about referrals and happy customers that will buy again. Q - Sherri: How did you take an idea and turn it into artistry with a production team? A - Elaine: One thing led to another thing. People suggested I make the design into jewelry and the company that does my embroidery made suggestions for some items on my website; I also saw items when shopping that inspired me also. Q - Sherri: What is your market and why? A - Elaine: As my design is a Christian design, my market is the Christian consumer. Q - Sherri: The #unendinglove design has a cross in the middle of a heart based on your Christian beliefs. In a world of political correctness and fear of some to mention faith...why are you adamant about sharing your Christian values through your work? A - Elaine: If we deny Him, He will deny us. I plan on rejoicing in His Heavenly kingdom one day. I would rather offend man than offend God. I would never hold my faith over anyone and am tolerant of other people having their beliefs yet at the same time I am not ashamed to hold on to my Christian beliefs and values. I am have had so many "God moments" in my live and am proud to be His child. Q - Sherri: Tell us why you named your company "Exclusively Elaine"... A - Elaine: I am original, one of a kind, so exclusively was a good word choice and I added my name after the word. It just seemed to fit.
  • 97. Your True Colours Vol. 2 Issue 2 A u g u s t 2 0 1 5 | 96 Your True Colours Q - Sherri: iSHARE also worked with you on additional ventures...would you like to share the pork-skin story? A - Elaine: Let's just say it is under development and not ready to come to light. Stay tuned. Q - Sherri: As a successful business-woman in another field (financial) unrelated to artistry...how do you balance work/life experience? A - Elaine: I am a high energy person that has to pull in the reins at times. I always start my day alone with God. That sets the tone for the rest of the day. I have to make myself stop "work" many times. I am constantly asking myself if my life is in or out of balance. If it is out of balance I make adjustments as necessary. I have all kinds of exercise equipment at my house and make a daily workout as part of my day. I try to end the day reading a good book. Q - Sherri: What is your primary focus as a professional? A - Elaine: To do the most with what I have to work with and to make the most of each day. Q - Sherri: What can we expect in the future for Exclusively Elaine in terms of product and the evolution of your business model? A - Elaine: Always open to new ideas. I have more Sterling Silver jewelry items to introduce as they are finished by the manufacturer. Q - Sherri: Where do you see yourself professionally in 5 years? A - Elaine: Working hard on something fun and exciting. I will be 66 and have no plans for retirement. A - Elaine: Do what you enjoy doing and brings you happiness. Too much of society focuses on the big job, the big house, the fancy car, but is that really the key to happiness? Too many people let their desires overtake them. Know who is leading, your own heart or the pull of society. Q - Sherri: Tell us how to make lemonade... Her memoir, From Barefoot to Stilettos tells the story of her life thus far, from her childhood days of living on food stamps, gangs and double-dutching on the streets of south-side Chicago to surviving a life changing accident, moving to Memphis and living a trophy-wife life, dealing with the mean girls, the monster-in-law, panic attacks, becoming a mother, to her post- divorce years and defeating the odds of building an entertainment powerhouse, all while rediscovering herself, her life, and her power. Through explorations of her own past and present tense, Marie reflects on how the sum of her trials and triumphs shaped her into the empowered woman she became during her incessant quest to find her “yes.” ... http://frombarefoottostilettos.com/
