particular social groups?

2. The representation of gender and
ethnicity in rap
It is common knowledge that the industry of rap
is unmistakably dominated by males of the black
ethnicity. This clearly elicits the connotation of
all black males being aggressive and violent as
that is what rap can be really portrayed as.
Furthermore I could find very little evidence of
females in this genre and that even when I did,
they were objectified and framed for the male
gaze. This is negative for females as it only
represents them as sexual objects but only to
appeal to the male audience. Moreover, there is
a lack in representation of other ethnicities in
the his genre which further illustrates that this
genre is dominated by the black ethnicity.

3. Subvert and conform
From what I identified about the rap genre
in relation to social groups, I wanted to
adhere as well subvert from the stereotypes
but importantly, I wanted to reconstruct the
identity of this social group as well as
making relative to rap. Design and layout on
my DPS clearly depict a more royal and
defined representation of rap. This is
accompanied by the main colour being gold,
signifying victory and riches. This adheres as
a rapper does value money and wealth but
subverts as the model is portrayed in calm
manner, opposed to being
aggressive/violent.

4. Representation and stereotypes
Coming from an Asian background, I know that this ethnicity is also
represented and depicted in many ways. I wanted to break this
stereotype as Asians are seen as being quiet, academic and not
aggressive. Therefore I had the model dress in casual clothing and
holding an IPhone to connote that he is identical to any rapper
regardless of skin colour.
The language used in my DPS
can be considered intelligent
as that is what British people
are stereotyped to be.
However I flip this concept in
a way that has the language
insulting and aggressive but
not referring to any forms of
violence or pain (Physical).
