Welcome to NLGroup University,
the development and training program
for all National Life Group employees.
In our commitment to provide diverse training and
development opportunities to help employees meet the
business-needs and objectives of National Life Group,
we are pleased to share the July through December
educational offerings and also make you aware of new
and expanded programs.
We continue to offer a variety of development opportunities,
lunch and learn sessions, as well as special programs
to help employees meet their highest potential by
strengthening their skills, knowledge and competencies.
Courses are held in Montpelier and Dallas, with some classes
being offered via teleconference, WebEx and eLearning.
With the company initiative to upgrade Microsoft Office
in 2011, technology courses will not be offered on site
this term. Anyone requiring technology training in
Montpelier may attend classes at the Panurgy Learning
Center in South Burlington. If five or more employees
need to take a class, training can be arranged on-site.
To make arrangements to take a technology class, contact
your Business Partner or Bonnie Cortese at Ex. 3273.
Dallas employees - please contact your Business Partner to
determine New Horizon options. When all our systems
are operating on the new version, we will offer a robust
schedule of on-site technical courses featuring Microsoft
Office 2010.
We want to make you aware of several new offerings
this term and remind you about recent additions.

  • 2. 1 Welcome to NLGroup University, the development and training program for all National Life Group employees. In our commitment to provide diverse training and development opportunities to help employees meet the business-needs and objectives of National Life Group, we are pleased to share the July through December educational offerings and also make you aware of new and expanded programs. We continue to offer a variety of development opportunities, lunch and learn sessions, as well as special programs to help employees meet their highest potential by strengthening their skills, knowledge and competencies. Courses are held in Montpelier and Dallas, with some classes being offered via teleconference, WebEx and eLearning. With the company initiative to upgrade Microsoft Office in 2011, technology courses will not be offered on site this term. Anyone requiring technology training in Montpelier may attend classes at the Panurgy Learning Center in South Burlington. If five or more employees need to take a class, training can be arranged on-site. To make arrangements to take a technology class, contact your Business Partner or Bonnie Cortese at Ex. 3273. Dallas employees - please contact your Business Partner to determine New Horizon options. When all our systems are operating on the new version, we will offer a robust schedule of on-site technical courses featuring Microsoft Office 2010. We want to make you aware of several new offerings this term and remind you about recent additions. New Competencies – New Courses: We are happy to introduce Business Acumen and Drive for Results courses to address the updated NLGroup Core Competencies. Business Acumen – A fundamental course for employees who want to better understand our business by gaining an overview of how to access available resources for building business acumen. Drive for Results – A course for employees who want to focus on their bottom-line performance and consistently achieve specific business goals. How We Make Money – This lunch and learn series beginning in June is also a great way to develop business acumen. New and Recent Additions: Learning to Use Major Social Media Sites – A hands- on lab to demonstrate use of major social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn. Explore how to use social media in your personal life, and learn about corporate policies for business use of social media. Transition to Management at NLGroup – A required course to help create a solid platform for performance excellence as a new front line manager. Other courses added recently include: • Innovation Skills • Meeting Facilitation • Problem Solving and Decision Making • SBI – Giving Feedback New Lunch & Learn/Special Programs: NECI Series – New England Culinary Institute will continue to offer their successful series of classes related to food, wine, nutrition, as well as healthy cooking some with a Spanish and Mexican flavor. Demystify Social Media – A great introduction to social media like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter for personal use. Parenting on Track Program® – This popular six-week evening program which returns in September is open to NLGroup employees, their families and friends, and the local Montpelier community. Building Tour & Company History – Join our resident historian, Brian Lindner, on a lunch-time tour of the Montpelier building to learn some fascinating stories about our culture and history. Wellness – Our regular one-hour wellness lunch sessions offer a wealth of knowledge and tools to help balance your work and life beyond NLGroup. Managing Garden Pests Organically – Learn to manage your garden without pesticides using organic IPM practices. We hope you find the tools here to help you meet your developmental goals.
