Toby Westgate, a 26-year-old man from Coventry with a history of drug use and criminal behavior, committed a violent robbery and carjacking against 20-year-old Maisy Roberts. An eyewitness saw Westgate attacking Roberts before fleeing in her stolen car, which was later found burnt 50 miles away. The police investigation identified Westgate as the primary suspect and are treating this case as a high priority, though Westgate remains at large. Anyone with information on Westgate's whereabouts is urged to contact the police.
2. Mollie: Hello and welcome to Coventry crackdown.
Eve: Today we have a one off special about the Westgate robbery.
Introduction…
3. Jamie: Toby Westgate is a 26 year old man who was raised in the Earlsdon area
of Coventry. Toby comes from a loving family, but at the age of 18 he fell into the
wrong crowd and picked up a bad habit for drugs. Westgate first came to the
attention of West Midlands Police just three months after his 185) birthday when he
was found in the possession of the class C drug marijuana. Little did both
Westgate's family and the police know this was only the beginning of his criminal
behaviour.
On November the 7th of this year, Westgate committed his most violent crime to
date. 20 year old Maisy Roberts also from Coventry was his victim. He targeted
Roberts after spotting her at her place of work just three weeks prior to the attack.
Westgate grew an obsession for Roberts which ultimately led to his attack and theft
of her car. The reason behind Westgate's obsession is the uncanny resemblance
between Roberts and his former partner.
4. Eye Witness Account…
Mollie: This is an eyewitness account of the attack from Roberts' co worker who wishes
to remain anonymous.
Eve: Some viewers may find this distressing.
5. Eye Witness Account…
Halena: It was just a normal day at work, we were tired and just wanted to go home. I
left shortly after Maisy and what I saw was horrifying. I saw the attacker, he was wearing
dark clothes he was really tall, it looked like a male. I saw him attacking Maisy and then he
just drove off in her car. *upset* I'm sorry. Maisy is my best friend. All I want is justice for
her.
7. PC Jones…
Louis: Thanks Mollie. We are taking this case very seriously and it is our highest priority
at the moment. Maisy is currently in a critical position in hospital, but we will be
interviewing her when she is well and able. We have an eye witness account and Toby
Westgate has been identified. Westgate is on the run and we have found Maisy's car burnt
out 50 miles from her place of work where it was stolen. We can assure you we will catch
Westgate and bring him to all the justice he deserves.
8. Conclusion…
