4. Q: WHAT HAVE WE MISSED?
“Impartiality in the way consultation is carried out”
“Integrated engagement and consultation”
“People centred care in engagement – patients are not a number”
“Honesty – being honest about the implications of change on services”
“Enough detail to fully understand before being asked for an opinion including the
motivation of the change”
“Options should have equal status not treated as more important that the other
“Better publicity of consultation activity”
“Not to consult on what you want to know ...but to also ask about what is
needed/important to users”
5. Other Sources
Primary Care Commissioning and Peoples Matters
Network :
• Engagement is too often seen as a process or an
activity. There needs to be a culture of engagement.
• Joined-up services demand joined-up engagement.
• Communities - not just professionals - need to be in
the driving seat.

7. Q: WHAT ELSE IS IMPORTANT TO YOU WHEN BEING
ASKED YOUR OPINION ABOUT CHANGES?
“Being included in decisions about the person I care for”
“Communication > Not everyone is on the internet”
“Is useful to know alternative views and possible choices in order to have an
opinion”
“To know my opinion will be taken on board and listened to”
“Being given the opportunity to write down my thoughts, not just tick boxes”
“It's not tokenistic or pre decided the outcome”
“To feel that my input is worthwhile”
8. WHAT NEXT?
• Develop a service user charter that reflects what people feel is important to
them
• Further develop this work and identify what groups we have missed
• Involve the community and voluntary sector in supporting these principles and
for the Health and Wellbeing Board to sign up to support these good principles
of engagement
