2. Our Project – The Pedal Box
• An integral part of the vehicle
• Serves as a main point of
interaction for the driver
• Integrates with braking and
electronics system
• Overall weight and cost

3. FSAE Rules
• The vehicle must accommodate drivers whose stature
ranges from 5th percentile female to 95th percentile.
• Braking force of 2kN must be able to be sustained
• 600N for 1.4G of deceleration

4. Main Issues and Areas of Focus:
• Sliding/adjustment mechanism
• Throttle oscillation
• Brake bias control
• Foot cups
• Drive by wire potentiometer guard

5. Position Adjustment Solutions
• Rollers on tracks (similar to drawers)
• Big threaded bolt
• Toothed shaft and torsion spring mechanism
• Spring return
• Pin operated rail mechanism
9. Throttle Oscillation Solutions
• Stoppers/cushioning
• Magnetic strips
• Using software to create a dead zone
• Adding dampening to the pedal as a whole
12. Brake Bias Control
• Decision between remote bias and manual
adjustment
• Manual adjustment is more reliable and
less prone to being affected by vibration
• Remote bias control is simpler to adjust
and more convenient
13. Foot Cups
• Last years model had foot cups that travel with the pedals, we
intend to change that in order to improve driver comfort and
simplicity of design.
• Potential extension of foot cups in order to protect the sensors
from kicking/ other damage.
