2. Our own company
Initially we created our own distribution
and production company, allowing us
complete freedom in what we made
instead of following a particular
distributors style such as ‘Working Title
Films’ who focus on British films. We
named it ‘Bruce Films’ after an inside
joke on previous tasks, and the logo
came out extremely well. So because
of this we would of course need a
cheap and effective way of distributing
our film. Luckily distributing films is
easier than ever with the rise of the
internet, allowing us to reach
anywhere in the world via the World
Wide Web.
3. YouTube
YouTube is certainly a possibility for distributing our film, it allows HD video
uploads and feedback can be provided by viewers via the comments section.
Interest in tour company could be gauged from the amount of views and ‘Likes’
the film receives, allowing for thoughts of sequels or other projects. Unfortunately,
once the film goes past 15 minutes it will not be uploaded to YouTube. This
problem can only be bypassed by receiving a set amount of views on the channel
as whole, this makes YouTube an unwise decision for anything more than a trailer
to advertise the film. If the film was eventually uploaded to YouTube it could be
effectively watched from anywhere via the use of smart phones and laptops which
everyone carries in today's society, allowing it to gain popularity on the go when
people show the film to friends when they move around the world.
4. Social Networking Websites
Social networking has become an extremely popular trend with people of all
ages, so utilising it for the distribution of our film makes complete sense. It can be
viewed in the farthest reaches of the world, and websites such as ‘Twitter’
feature a trend feature which will highlight the most popular things on Twitter at
that moment, if the film reached any kind of popularity it would be seen on this list
of trends therefore becoming even more popular. If for some reason the film
couldn’t be uploaded, these websites could easily be used to advertise the film
taking them to another external website containing the film.
5. ITunes
If the film reached a reasonable height of popularity, there is a chance
that it could be accepted by iTunes and listed on their extensive
catalogue of films. From here the film can be rated and downloaded to
any of Apples devices, including the iPhone which can be carried
anywhere someone goes allowing it to gain even more popularity not to
mention providing profit for the company.
6. Independent Film
Distribution Companies
Perhaps the most unrealistic concept, is that a distribution company would fund
the distribution of the film. To achieve this a relatively small company would
have to be targeted, preferably one which distributes independent films such as
ours. For example ‘Vertigo Films’ sometimes distributes independent films such
as ‘Monsters’ which made a decent amount of money when it finally arrived on
home media. Once again this option is quite unrealistic and was one of the
reasons we decided to make our own company instead of pretending to join
any other kind of company.
