1. Tell me in no more than20
words, what is yourFMP idea?
To create a concept for a new thriller film in which ill create
promotionalmaterial for it (trailers, posters, etc)
Why have youdecided to make
it?
I’ve alwayshad a strongdrive andpassioncreating movingimage
entertainmentpieces, whether as a hobby orthrough schoolwork
I’vealways optedfor a desire to create films and usedevery
opportunity availabletocreate videoswith the background
knowledge andinterest I have onthis subject, and thisis no
exception. Recognisingthe freedom and vastopportunity available
given its entirely my own choice, I really want to express my full
ability creating not only movingimage where my passionslye, but to
also demonstratemy extensive skills andability in print andaudio.
Film had always seemed the obviousoptionwhere I can strive to
show theseskills because of the extensive possibilities and pathways
to follow, creating trailers, postersor teasers, the different forms of
media, video, audioandprint, can be expressed thoroughly.
What aboutyourproject makes
it importantto you?
After havinglearnt so much over the past 2 years on the course,
everythinghas led to this project which determine my final outcome
andgrade I will receive which makesit more importantthanever
before. Notonly thisbut I'velearnt somuch overthe course of my
lessonsthat I'dreally like to reflect in this specific project ill produce.
The outcomewill be strongly reflective of myself, it will be
understandingofmy passionin the industry, anditwill express
everythingI've learnt so it hasto be the best it can possibly be.
Outline someof the initial
influences on youridea/work
andsome potentialresearch
targets (remember, research
isn’tjust a paper basedactivity)
DavidFincher (Director) - For his commonuse of wide, first person, and low
angle shots, this creates a lot of suspense having placedyou inthe position of the
person in danger; and in additionto this, the use of common themes around
sensitive andor disturbing topic, like with suicidal intentions and revenge schemes,
exhibited by flashbacks or psychological reflections, these ideals give anintense
thrill factor in the amotionof the audience.
BohemianRhapsody (Song)- The weird, unique style that’s present to this
song throughout gives off very peculiar impressions, but the beginning in particular
is more mellowandslightlythreatening in the lyrical balance against the tones being
impersonated, so using this sectionmay be of use tosome of the mysterious and
thriller impact I desire.
Sweet DreamsAre Made Of This (Song) - Made for its powerful and
uplifting connotations, the synth upbeat music creates a lot of the desirable feelings
that I want to demonstrate whilst sustaining a faster-paced, more engaging general
atmosphere.
The Tortured (Film Trailer) - For its strong take on music andsound effects to
bring realism to the trailer, the almost pop trackthat is used contradicts the
suspense, dangerous scenarioto make a very creepy, threatening and dramatic
atmosphere.
2. Guillermo del Toro (Director) - Using a lot of the time humanfears to
establisha strong sense of fear and judgement to the thriller genre, the way he
interprets his films andthe emotions in the audience include a lot of peculiar
creatures, which isn't notably achievable for my project because of some limitations,
but having been definedamongst disturbing places like morgues, graveyards, and
churches, this expresses the atmospheres he intended on establishing tothe
audience more clearly.
What effect do youwant to
have onyouraudience when
they see yourproject?
Acknowledging the fact that I'mtargeting the thriller genre, I would
really like to follow the characteristics of this typeof film, expressing
movingimage in the different feelings andmoodscreated in my
audience forming aroundanxiousness, anticipation, fear, anger,
false-hope, tension, unpredictability, andawareness. Created in a
varied range of different forms thatI intend oncreating, this sense
of constant anticipation leaves an audience always enjoying the film
as they begin to place themselvesin the dangeroussituations, often
makingit more memorable for the perpetual sense of expecting and
judging ‘whathappensnext’;whilst this is affective, its the
unpredictableclimax’s throughout thethriller genre that
demonstratethe outstandingemotionstokeepthe audience hooked
andconstantly thinkingaboutthe plotor next ‘thrill’ which keeps
them engagedat all times until the end of the film.
Describe the tone/mood/style
of yourproject [which
production
techniques/characteristics are
youemploying?]
Other than the moodsandconstantfeelings of anticipationI want to
demonstrate(as previously mentioned), thiswill be evicted through
what's mainly the atmospherebeing created from processes like
quick cutting, first-personshots, panningexecutionsof the usually
dangerousandor frightening scenarios/locations, strongmystery
andpsychologicalstyle, and that’ll emphasisecertain characteristics
to reflect these moodsin the aura surrounding theaudience so that
the thriller genre can really startto seep into their day-to-day lifefor
addedsuspenseand enjoyment - as such with possibly stayingup
until early hoursof the day, dark environments, andorsimilar
locationsthat’re presentto themselves.
Why have youdecided to make
yourproject in thisstyle?
I thrive when producingmovingimage productions, whetherfilm, tv
or music related, these formsof media I excel in ability and skill given
the backgroundknowledgeandexperience with bothpostandon-
set production(filming activities). Inadditionto this, I've always had
a strongpassionwith the film industry, watching, observing, and
producingit myself as a hobby of mine, andafter havingrecognised
the vastopportunities availableif I had chosenthis course of activity,
its an obviousoptionacknowledgingthefact thatits something I will
work well devisingat the same cost of enjoyment.
