Describe qualitatively, using the wave model, the features of waves including wavelength, frequency and speed.
1. Energy transfer through
different mediums can be
explained using wave
and particle models.
-DESCRIBE QUALITATIVELY, USING THE WAVE MODEL, THE FEATURES OF
WAVES INCLUDING WAVELENGTH, FREQUENCY AND SPEED.
3. Waves are the transfer of energy through different mediums and space.
There are two types of waves;
• longitudinal (compression) waves e.g sound waves. Particles move back and
forth parallel to the direction of the wave.
• Transverse waves e.g electromagnetic waves and waves at the beach. Particles
move perpendicular to direction of the wave.

4. Features of a wave
Wavelength (λ) : A wavelength is a measure of distance between two
identical points on a wave (Rouse, 2018).
Frequency (f): The number of waves that pass a fixed point in unit time
(Gregersen, 2018) is defined as the frequency of a wave.
Speed (s): The speed is a measure of how fast the wave is moving through
space.
Amplitude (a): the distance from the middle of a wave to the top of a
crest or to the bottom of a trough.
