2. Type of documentary
● The documentary is a mixed documentary, as it
has all the conventions of a mixed documentary
such as interviews, narrator, archive material
etc. in order to give the audience a better
understanding of the topic.
3. Narrative structure
● The documentary opens with archive footage of
Meatloaf performing live, also with some shots
of old awards ceremonies.
● The documentary is non-linear and single
strand, as the documentary only focuses on
Meatloaf.
● The documentary has a closed ending, as all
the loose ends are tied up before the
programme is over.
4. Camera work
● Predominantly, close-up shots are used in this
documentary, presumably to allow the audience
to feel as close to the stars as they possibly
can. The documentary follows the typical
convention of using rule of thirds.
● The documentary also uses shots of Meatloaf's
concerts, but from below him making him look
like the authority figure above the audience.
5. Mise-en-scene
● The documentary has a variety of different
filming locations, showing the audience
Meatloaf's marketing campaign over a period of
time. It also shows places like Virgins records,
his concerts, magazine companies. Musical
equipment is seen throughout the documentary
also.
6. Sound
● We see the use of non-diagetic sound within
the documentary, through the incorporation of
Meatloaf's songs. When the audience is
hearing about the artwork for the CD's, the
music from those CD's is played, linking the two
pieces of information together.
7. Archive material
● The documentary uses a high amount of
archive material throughout the programme, it
shows us footage from the concerts that
Meatloaf has put on and also footage from
awards shows that he has been to. We also
see some footage from inside the studio.
