Management
▪ Personally supervised replacement of three underway replenishment (UNREP) sealed hydraulic transmissions (without
outside assistance) clearing three major UNREP Casualty Reports (CASREPS) during an extended Mediterranean
deployment onboard USS SAVANNAH (AOR 4).
▪ Managed USS SAVANNAH’s Deck Department $30K repair allowance; recognized for always being within budget
and with parts on hand for needed repairs.
▪ Developed a new Preventive Maintenance Schedule (PMS) technique for cargowinch antislack device rollers
ultimately increasing their life fourfold and providing cost savings of thousands of dollars.
▪ Company Commander (CC) in the Integrated Training Brigade (ITB); oversaw the military organization and physical
training of approximately 7,000 students (annually) over a three year period; supervised 12 junior personnel.
▪ Commended for being the only CC ever to earn 12 consecutive zone inspections, eight personnel inspection flags and
maintaining the lowest disciplinary rate of any company in the regiment.
▪ Effectively served as leading CC during the absence of the Battalion Adjutant ensuring smooth operation.
▪ Instrumental in the development of a formal ITB course; ultimately approved for use by the Chief of Naval Technical
Training.
▪ Received “Sailor of the Year” for 1987, NTTC Meridian, MS.
▪ Leading Supervisor of the Auxiliary Division, USS SAIPAN (LHA 2); responsible for proper operation/maintenance
and preservation of steam/heating systems, ballasting and sewage treatment systems. Conducted over 35 operations
and four major amphibious exercises without a major casualty. Managed and tracked 56 divisional jobs involving
major repairs to elevator machinery, emergency diesel generators and steering gear during a major repair audit.
▪ Assisted in coordinating the transition of the USS PLATTE (AO 186) from overhaul to a fully operational combat
logistics unit.
▪ Managed the Pump Repair Shop, (SIMA Little Creek, VA) for a sevenmonth period; supervised the overhaul of
various types of impeller and positive displacement pumps (150 pumps) in a twomonth period, setting a record for the
Production Shop.
▪ Assigned as a Division Officer; provided administrative and technical support for 135 personnel and five Work
Centers.
▪ Instrumental in the procurement of two lathes and a large milling machine without further cost to the Navy through
reutilization of industrial plant equipment from decommissioning units.
▪ Commended for expert coordination and supervision of the reconstruction of the diesel engine (dynamometer) stand;
saved $24,500 by completing the renovation with only $3,400.
▪ Quality Assurance Program Manager overseeing all aspects of QA testing and inspection.

3. Quality Assurance
▪ Planned and executed the merger of SIMA Little Creek with the Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA), Norfolk
with no loss of QA support.
▪ Organized and executed a complete IMA selfaudit involving 27 Inspectors in 44 audit areas resulting in the
identification of over 150 discrepancies.
▪ Assumed the additional responsibility of SIMA’s QA Officer; a billet ordinarily filled by a Lieutenant.
▪ Spearheaded efforts to prepare for Commander Naval Surface Force Atlantic Fleet (COMNAVSURFLANT) IMA
audit; resulted in an overall grade of “outstanding” – highest ever achieved in SIMA’s 28year history.
▪ Developed an intensive training program to qualify additional QA Inspectors to exceed minimal requirements.
Maintenance
▪ Regularly troubleshot, performed corrective and preventive maintenance/repairs to JP5 fuel systems, ship’s service
diesel generators, boilers, evaporators, hydraulic steering systems, pumps, valves, galley and laundry equipment.
