• This opening title sequence follows a non-linear structure. The producer has done
this to emphasise its themes, such as comedy and graphic death to the audience.
• The opening sequence prepares for the film by setting the genre, zombie-horror.
This is a key purpose for an OTS. It also establishes the setting, evident by the US
flag and other cultural factors, such as the American football stadium.
• This OTS creates narrative enigmas by using a voice over, who is this narrator, and
what has happened? Evident by its post-apocalyptic nature.
3. Questions
• This OTS supports the typical generic conventions of a zombie-horror. This is
shown by the realistic setting, which is typical for zombie films. It also uses gory
death and blood, another generic convention. It also reinforces perceptions such
as the overweight are unable to run fast and girls have princess parties.
• The main protagonist is represented in a ‘nerdy’ and anxious way. This has been
done for comedic effect as many will be able to relate to him and how he acts
within an apocalypse, such as not knowing what to do.
• The credits are presented as block capitals and the colour of red. This parallels
the scenes, which display anarchy, this is done to add the apocalyptic effect.
