Suleiman Shuaibu completed a 6-month internship at the Federal Medical Center in Keffi, Nasarawa State as part of the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). During the internship, he engaged in activities like web development, hardware and system maintenance, and resolving network problems. He learned skills like troubleshooting, computer repairs and maintenance, website development, and solving network issues. While the internship helped him develop practical skills and improve his computer science knowledge, he also faced challenges with limited opportunities for skill acquisition and study experience due to inefficient facilities.
3. ACTIVITY OUTLINE
Web development
Hardware and System Maintenance
Resolving network problems
4. HARDWARE & SYSTEM MAINTENACE
System requires maintenance i.e. the act of restoring failed items
back to working conditions. In this department I worked with the
physical components of a computer, such as the CPU, VDU,
keyboards, UPS, and many other components associated with the
computer system.
WORKDONE
• Made necessary alterations to the system unit.
• I formatted desktop computers, installed important software and
cleaned the RAM.
• I enslaved hard disk to retrieve information from damaged
systems.
• Formatted and did a reset on various systems
• Operating system re-installation
• E.t.c
5. WEB DEVELOPMENT
This is the work involved in developing a website for the
internet(World Wide Web) or an intranet(a private network.
At this stage i learnt different programming languages and
we made use of:
(1) HTML(Hyper-text Markup Language.
(2) CSS(Cascading Style Sheet).
(3) The use of Bootstrap.
In the event. I was put through over a course of a month on
how to make a website, so I made a fairly responsive website
and also how to host a website using a LocalHost. I made use
of this using the Github server.
The address of the above website is:

6. RESOLVING NETWORK PROBLEMS
At this stage, I learned about various possibilities of network
issues and how to solve them. Resolving network problems
comprises of different varieties of techniques such as
troubleshooting. It is the first step taken to identify any network
problem which stems from isolating the defective possibilities to
a single component. Some of these troubleshooting techniques
are as follows:
Checking your settings
Checking your access point.
Going around obstacles to detect hardware defects, if any.
Restarting the router.
Checking the Wi-Fi name and password.
Checking the DHCP settings.
Updating windows
Open windows network diagnostics.
Afterwards measures are taken to solve the problem, depending
on the problem or issue identified from the process of
troubleshooting.
7. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS ACQUIRED
• Troubleshooting ability
• Computer repairs and maintenance
• How to make a website and host it
• Ability to solve network problems
• Discipline and punctuality to work
CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED
• Low possibilities of skill acquisition.
• Limited variety of study experience.
• Difficulty in accomplishing task due to inefficient
facilities.
8. CONCLUSION
This summarizes my Six (6) months SIWES Program and serves
as a comprehensive breakdown of my original written report. My
training at the Federal Medical Center has helped in developing
my practical skills and has improved my theoretical perspective of
computer science.
I was able to acquire skills of good qualities and innovative use
with the potential of applying such to proper use where necessary.
9. Due to the prolonged strike after my Internship, I got an additional 5 month placement at Galaxy
Backbone , Abuja from the period of January – May 2023 in this period, I was placed in a unit called
Internal IT as an intern which I learnt the following:
* Human Relationship in a working Organization.
* Customer and Worker relationship in marketing.
* Configuration of IP phones using Lan cables.
* Setting up of digital printers for printing and projectors for meeting.
* Wifi settings and configuration for other workers in various units.
* Routine checkups in various organizations in terms of Internet connectivity and IP phones,(this
organizations can either be private or public).
