2. They is no lighting at the start of my film this was done to
create anticipation in the audience as the setting is gradually
revelled. Also it intensifies the first meeting of the main
character for the audience as it sparks there attention.
Lighting occurs as the main character turns on the light. This
adds an dramatic reveal and surprises the audience as they do
not hear the diegetic sound, so they are unaware of movement
in the scene.
The lighting used is intense when compared towards the dark
back drop this was done to position the audience on focusing
on the character and props. This highlights the characters
importance within the film showing they are the main character.
3. The dark lighting adds mystery to the main character this will
lead to the audiences asking questions to where this character
falls into the Propp character functions. Due to the ambiguity of
the scene they can be different interpretations of the character.
The bright light on the character can be miss leading as it has
connotations of innocence and purity. This contrast with the
character who is in fact the villain rather then a hero figure as
the light suggests. This was done to create an enigma code on
the character to get the audience to be invested in the film.
The back ground is very dark compared to the bright light this
is a use of binary opposites to intensify the impact the light
has. Darkness within the scene leaves the audience intrigued as
the setting is unclear due to only light being on certain things.
4. Dark light gives connotations of something sinister and low
lighting is common within horrors so this will add hints about
the genre to the audience. This dark setting will automatically
add mystery to my character as it implies they have something
to hide or they don’t want to been seen.
Only ambient lighting was used and this came from the mirror
lamp, by only having one light it created shadow and a eerie
atmosphere.
In conclusion they is a lack of lighting to add suspicion to the
character, with having a large contrast between the lighting
used this adds to there unclear role of the character.
5. They are clear dominating colours in my film these are black
and white this was done as they are seen as opposites, by
having a large contrast it can intensify the impact of the scene.
The main character is dressed in a black hoodie this implies she
is a sinister character or that they have something negative to
hide. It shows vulnerability in the character as they blend with
the dark back ground showing they do not like to stand out
from the crowd or that they don’t want to be seen.
The photo book pages show mostly white implying the people
within the book are innocent, with addition to the bright light
like a halo on the book it gives positive feelings about the
people in the book.
6. The character has long red nails the red implies danger this was
done to show the audience that this character is a villain in the
theory of Propps Character Functions. The nails imply that the
character cares about their appearance unlike the simple outfit
chosen. The hoodie is discreet implying the character doesn’t
want to be seen this contradicts with the statement red nails.
This was done to show that the character has multiple
personalities.
Hoodies within the youth community have stereotypical
connotations of crime and violence. This was worn to imply this
character is violent or a negative character. Also her outfit
would contrast heavily with the damsel character within my
film. The is a use of binary opposites to highlight the good and
the bad.
