1. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2. Title Above is Kerrangs’ title font and my own title font. Kerrang use an eroded font so I chose a font which looked worn away as I felt it suited the music magazine genre. The word Riff is short and relates to music so I think this would be a catchy magazine title, like the word ‘Kerrang’. Like the Kerrang magazine, my ‘Riff’ title spreads across the top of the page, which is the typical way the magazine title is set out.
3. Model Here is the photo on my front cover and a Kerrang front cover. I made my model look straight at the camera like the people on existing magazines do to draw the reader in. I think I chose a good photo for the front cover as the poses and gestures on both magazine covers are quite bold and both have the same rebellious threatening effect. I used a simple costume on my front cover as I wanted to focus mainly on her facial expression and pose.
4. Magazine layout I followed the typical magazine front cover layout when making my own front cover. The title is at the top, with the name of the featured artist large and bold near the middle of the cover. Kerrang usually have other photos on the front cover, so I also put another smaller photo on the front. I think this layout works well for a music magazine cover as it shows as many different bands on the front cover as possible.
